Microsoft is calling its Office 2013 suite, Office 2013 signals a shift to document collaboration and anywhere any device access. Notably, Microsoft is introducing an on-demand subscription version of Office 2013 that can be streamed from any Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC, with the ability to sync settings and documents. With strong competition from Google Apps and Apple’s iCloud storage and iPad hardware, how does Microsoft plan to keep Office 2013 desktop software and its cloud offerings relevant in a multi device era.

I don't think it is so bad. I do like the look of 2010 best, however. The functionality is much the same, very little has changed. The bit that has changed is not cause enough for me to switch over to 2013, so I'll be keepinig 2010. If I were a new customer, I would go with 2013.

The plain look isn't so terrible, although it would be grand if we were able to add transparency to it, as in other Win-7 windows

Word 2012 takes forever to start in Win 7

I installed the Office 2013 Preview in my Windows 8 dual boot partition and it looks great. Then I installed it in my Windows 7 (main boot) partition. It takes about 5 minutes for Word or Excel to open while using a fair amount of CPU power. When it did it the first time I figured it was just getting organized. When it did it the second time that was unacceptable!

Any idea what the problem is?

Could be a software conflict or incompatibility.

Brink will know more about it, but some quick things. Do you have another office product installed, such as office trial, office starter, office 2010, etc?

Could your antivirus or other security software/settings be interfering with the download of the program, or the opening process after the download?

Can you repair it by control panel uninstall programs, click it, click change, click repair?

Office 2010 is also installed just as it is in the Windows 8 partition. Office 2013 uninstalled easily so I'll just use it in Windows 8. Its not worth trying to fix the problem. Thanks for your suggestions.

You have 2 full office 2010 installations and you went to the 2013 preview on both computers? o.0

Its not 2 computers its 2 boot partitions. I have been installing the same programs on both in order to use either partition for my daily work. Its not important to have 2 versions of Office but there's no reason they shouldn't both work on Windows 7 since they do fine on Windows 8. Office works on Windows 7 "okay" except that it takes several minutes to open. So I'll just play with Office 2013 in my Win 8 partition.
