Why does Microsoft have to be so damn confusing? or is it just the idiot that's typing this?! I just went in to do the new update 2840149 that I thought was to replace 2823324 but when I clicked on "More info button" which I generally do, it says new one is 2829996 to replace 2778344. ??????????????????

Well, It could be a case of
PEBCAK , but you shouldn't be too hard on yourself, we've all run into Microsoft's (MS's) crazy numbering system.
This is a good example of
Supersedence that MS has to employ when something isn't right and needs corrected, here's a fellow that had problems back in '07:
In my environment, when we patch servers, we apply selective MS patches; and i've found it always troublesome to match it against the MS number to find out if all the required patches are in.

Some more frustration in '03. The first link works, the second doesn't.
MS Bulletin vs KB Numbers
2823324 but when I clicked on "More info button" which I generally do, it says new one is 2829996 to replace 2778344 .
I can't find that.
Are the two numbers to match?

I'm not sure I understand your question about the number match?
I went ahead with the install sometime after my last post.

With all the different KB#'s, superseding from one Update I wanted to make sure you meant 2778344, and not 2823324, I see it was my error.
2840149
2823324
2829996
2778344
I lost track of 2778344, then saw it at the top of the MS13-016 Bulletin, it's confusing, even to me.

An improperly asked question or reply can lead to a cascading effect of mis-interpretation.
Anak (1951- ????)
It's usually 'cuz I don't phrase my question properly.

With all the technology available it's a wonder users can even form a hypothesis.
You are no different than me or the other respondents to this thread, troubleshooting anything can take a lot of work.
Take cooking for example, if a dish goes wrong you have to think back to try and find "where did it go wrong"?
So if you have a problem just try and describe it the best you can.
