Microsoft Really Getting Sneaky On Windows 10

Nice to know there are those that agree with me.
I wouldn't doubt that you are correct Lady Fitzgerald.

when I try something new, I get serious about it.. I tried Windows 10, and there's nothing serious to get about it. There's that old saying..."Don't try to fix it on something that works." Windows 7 is a great OS, and what MS should have down is...."improve it, not tear it apart." There also was nothing wrong with XP, but they had to have Windows 7....
But, you know what money talk does. It means we have to make I anew so people will flock to buy it. Such as the case here with Windows 10. Yes, I tried Windows 10, and I'm not going with Windows 10. I'll use my old 2001 HP 775e with XP, which by the way works great...still.

4. Forced updates
5. Loss of Gadgets

You can install 8 gadget pack (You might need to reinstall it again after a new release)

From what I've read, no gadgets will work in Win 10.

For Gadgets I use https://www.rainmeter.net/ You can download something you like or write your own. I prefer the latter. If I can figure out how to make my own anyone can. It's compatible with Win 7 through 10.

Fair warning, if you write your own it can become addictive. ;)

Back on topic, the easy way to avoid any W10 updates is to make certain you've installed KB3050265 and then made the GPO or Registry edits as noted:

"Computers that have this Group Policy object enabled will never detect, download, or install an upgrade to the latest version of Windows."

Intended of course not for the masses but rather corporations that MS does not want to get crosswise with.

Yes I believe that many of the updates for W7 have tweaks & mods to W7 such that if you undo the above, W10 floodgates are opened, but I'll take my chances that MS is being honest about the block method.

As I re-read this post I wonder if GWX Control Panel (which I installed/ran before learning the above) checks to see that KB3050265 is installed. My understanding is that if it ISN'T then the tweak will not work. Anyway I've checked all my W7 PCs to make sure the KB is installed and the registry shows the block.

I believe gwx control panel will see the edit and report the os upgrade is enabled or not,
My home premium gwx shows upgrading is enabled mostly because I have not used the win update to add the gp registry stuff to not upgrade
I personally didn't see any point in doing that one I'm well aware of how to review updates :)

Many folks still have a use for the PC and they also tend to seek out the suggestions and opinions of
their IT guy at work when it comes to anything related to computers, and when M$ pisses off the IT folks, local
PC shop, or some of us "geeks" here, we in turn are telling those folks to stay away from Windows 10. Their
decisions are really glaringly arrogant, and dare I say, stupid, if they want the typical consumer to accept it.

Hello to all and Happy New Year :)

I have Windows 7 home premium so I don't have "The local Group Policy Editor", but I found this article on the web;
10 ways to tweak Windows 7 using the Local Group Policy Editor - TechRepublic

A good mate of mine had his laptop stolen and was gonna buy a new one. He was used to windows 7 and I told him to stay away from new Windows 10 fitted computers. He bought a good Dell refurbished one with windows 7 Home Premium on it for half the price.

One client down for Windows 10 ;)

   Note
Starting early 2016, Windows 10 will become a recommended download in Windows Update, so with this feature on, more users could get it without them even knowing.

Yes - review all updates before downloading them!
