Microsoft Sculpt wireless keyboard doesn't work on my lap??

I've had Microsoft wireless ergonomic keyboards 4000 & now the Sculpt and I love them, but I seem to have a problem with them, it was an issue with the older keyboard too but now constantly with the Sculpt.

If I place the keyboard on my lap, it basically cuts out and doesn't type. If I move it around and a certain angle I can get it to type, but then it may cut out again or type weird.

The only time it ever works perfect is when it's completely flat on my desk.

This doesn't make sense to me and I know it's not an issue with the new Sculpt because I had this problem with the older one.

So what would cause this thing to not work when just simply placing it on my lap another foot away and down 8"?

Here is an example of me typing from my lap, you can see the skipped letters and then the addition of extra letters. It's very odd:

w hit want thh ca but 'mmnot tyyping on mylaap nd you cannse ho messed dit is - tis real makees no sen

'm ggointo ttemmpt tttypa wi ss is notworrkingng

I love this keyboard so I don't want to switch to anything else. Just wish this one worked flawlessly for a much better setup.

If the only place it doesn't work is when it is in your lap, you need to check for interference at or near your lap. For example, is anything magnetic in your pocket? Or do you perhaps have a big metal belt buckle?

If you sat in a different spot, say, on the desk, and you put it in your lap there, would the problem continue? Or if you moved from your chair, but left the laptop in exactly the same spot as if your lap was still there, would the problem continue?

Is there a microwave oven or TV nearby?

I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
No there is really no rhyme or reason, I have nothing in my pockets, usually my phone is on the desk. The tv is about 3' away as I use it as a display.

Oddly enough I have been typing on my lap most of the day and it seems to be working fine. But this is a 1 out of 10 situation, it usually is never this good. If it was it would be a perfect setup for me.

Open device manager to see it there is any drivers alert (yellow).
Try to use the USB receiver on another port.
