Hey guys I've installed MSE BETA last night after one nightmare of a time, I made sure to create a system restore point before this, it uninstalled the standard MSE but failed to install the BETA so I had to use the Windows Install Cleanup tool: Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 2.5.0.1 Free - Remove Windows Installer configuration information on failed installs - Softpedia to remove the Antimalware element of MSE that doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs.
So after a restart of the computer, I try again and it installed fine.
Today I noticed something that concerns me- Windows Update: When checking for updates before, MSE definitions came up as "Optional" all the time which I thought might have been Microsoft being geniuses and thinking that if they make it optional- a virus or malware won't be bothered with it but, the BETA shows definition updates as Important and this was the same when I was using Windows Defender. So I'm not sure if this is normal or not.
Also, as amazed as I was by this compared to the standard MSE, the BETA's quick scan takes 30 seconds, which I've only been use to when Windows is freshly installed. The computer is much faster as well, I guess my question is more of wondering if there are any problems with the BETA and if anyone has had any problems that forced them to uninstall it and reinstall the standard MSE.
I personally am pretty concerned that the quick scan takes 30 seconds and scans 37425 objects in that time and the computer being faster even with MSE Beta having much more to do what with Firewall and Internet Explorer integration and network monitoring while in the meantime scanning every little thing we do on a computer.

Maybe it whitelists alot more system files than before to make scanning quicker?

Since installing it I've not had a single problem.

I don't know if it's the correct way to go about it but I just ran the MSE 2.0 installer over the MSE 1.0, seemed to uninstall it & then go about it's business.

Anyway like I've already said no problems my end.

Cool I thought there may have been a problem with either the installation or my computer, I know a lot of people had issues with upgrading MSE before

Hi!

Please note that Microsoft removed the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the download site because it was causing problems on some computers, removing more than it should.

This was a change made a while ago. If you notice an update available in Windows Update, it is fine to install it. However, MSE will continue updating as it did before. I don't know if the reason for this change was published so will just leave it at that.

Also, as amazed as I was by this compared to the standard MSE, the BETA's quick scan takes 30 seconds, which I've only been use to when Windows is freshly installed. A faster scan is one of the objectives of the new version.

Cheers Corrine I was a bit worried about the scans being faster I was use to the standard MSE scans! I still use the Windows Installer Clean Up tool because I had a few problems with removing programs in the past it's only a last resort for me to use it like last night otherwise MSE and MSE Beta wouldn't be installed now :)
