As the program is implicitly designed to page out of ram as much as possible I believe the amount of working RAM shown will vary according to factors such as the available ram and current other uses - MSE fully utilises the memory management of Windows 7

Yes, I downloaded it today from here.

I'm doing nothing unusual. Even with nothing running it's at 28k.

Edit: Ending the process and reopening brings down the usage to 3k.

An anti virus can never run at just 3-4 MB RAM. All you guys need to click Show Processes from all Users in task mgr and then check the exact RAM usage. You will be surprised to see that it uses around 30-35 MB RAM. ;)

You beat me to it. You are exactly right, no way does it run at <4 Mb

I won't be running it as I've learnt my lesson and am sticking to NOD32 unless something drastic happens

NOD32 uses around 25-35 MB RAM. However, i have noticed that while scan, NOD32 hikes the CPU usage.

NOD32 is way better than MSE.

I think at the moment we are seeing a lot of opinions on the suitability and effectiveness of MSE, a new and relatively untried application.

I for one am in the process of evaluating the product.

Time will tell if MSE is the tool that the industry needs to educate the masses of system users who use computers on a daily basis on the need for security .

I must say that my Initial impressions of MSE are good, but I will of course continue my evaluation and only make a decision on continued use and If I recommend it to others, once this evaluation is completed.

That's the usage of the user interface, you need to look for the msmpeng.exe to see the usage of the engine.

The discussion took a left turn. The issue was specifically msseces.exe until Dinesh (dropped his FNG badge). MSE has always run around 50MB on my machine.
 
There's 2 things so far I wish they would've done.

made it optional to add to the context menu during install and not have the interface always open. I had to remove it from the start up and if I open it and want to close it I have to kill the process in task manager.
