When I attempt to run a Full Scan with MSE, the scan freezes at 133666 Items scanned and the Time elapsed freezes at 00:14:06. Is there a fix?

You can try the MS Defender Offline Boot scanner...

Otherwise, wait for MSSE definition update, or, if need results quickly, try uninstalling MSSE with add/remove programs, then redownload/reinstall it...

I had this happen to me once. The file that it was stuck on was very large (hundreds of megabytes) and compressed (like a .zip file but some other packing scheme, maybe .cab).

I went into MSE and added it to the exclusion list. I knew it was safe to ignore because it was a driver file downloaded directly from manufacturer web site. The next scan then went smoothly.

ColMac,

Do you know what file is making it hang?

There have been some problems with the following update: KB3004394

Thank you. That would be probably worst case, but I'll try that if a quicker fix isn't suggested.

ColMac,

Do you know what file is making it hang?

This time (and I can't guarantee it's the same file every time) it's hung up on C:\Windows\System32\catroot2\dberr.txt

My list of installed updates doesn't seem to include KB3004394

Is that helpful?

Interesting suggestion. I'll give that a try.

The exclusion is a good idea.

If no go, see if there is any other update, and install it.

That worked!

I added the file where it hung up: C:\Windows\System32\catroot2\dberr.txt to the Exclusion List, and have successfully run a full scan.

Many thanks!
