Microsoft Security Essentials good?

I am using BitDefender Total Security 2010 with a license, and its great. I also did my research on it, and it came out #1 on many site reviews/tests... so I am just wondering is Microsoft Security Essentials good enough to replace my Bitdefender Total Security 2010, or I should just stick with Bitdefender as it does a great job of protecting. I just want the best protection for my PC. Feel free to share your experiences and knowledge.

I use MSE, and it works great.

Is MSE good enough to replace BitDefender? In my opinion, definitely. When your license expires, switch to MSE. There is no need to pay for programs like that anymore.

Put the $40 into some more RAM.

that is a subjective notion what's best for me might be mediocre for someone else...as for mse its pretty darn good but BD is a suite it offers more in terms of features

I didnt bother to renew my nod32 subscription when it ended and stuck with MSE. Ive been happy with it.

I've used Norton and AVG in the past, and after my last reinstall, looking for something lighter, chose MSE as a few people on here recommended it, and have been more than happy with it.

Im not really worried about money and my license, and by listening to you gurus im thinking about MSE... but its good in protection right? Or theres no point of getting it.

It's good in protection. Hasn't let a virus through for me.

It's also very fast and lightweight.

It might not be broken, but why pay for something that may not be as good, or is just as good as a free alternative? I'm not sure if your rich or not, but if your like me. You try to save as much as you can by finding alternatives to pricey software.

You should do your own research and find out which AV is best, I did my research and on most site reviews Bitdefender came out 1st, and 2nd was kaspersky... so I would reccomend Bitdefender to you, as I have been using it for 2 years on home PC, and 2 months on my new 7 laptop, and no viruses on either. But between Avast and kaspersky, definitely kaspersky because its better and its worth it, but try out bitdefender. To anyone that tells you norton is good, than back slap them with your hand

if he were thinking of buying BD i surely would have suggested mse....but the case is different

No im not rich, and Bitdefender is a great AV, but its kinda is rough on my laptop, and yea I decided to get MSE, and it seems real simple, and lol its only 7 mb so yea its not going to be a hassle on my laptop... so far I like it. Thank you everyone for your input

The other advantage is that MSE seems very difficult for malware to disable. Compared the number of computers with Norton and McAfee that I've found with their AV systems damaged or disabled by malware, so far I've found none where MSE was disabled the same way. In fact I generally use MSE to clean up computers where other AV solutions have been compromised.

Windows does not come with Norton. That is something the computer manufacturer (Dell, HP) put on there.

norton= yuk yuk!! i really dont like that software, never have, im using MSE and have had no problems at all, i would definatley recommend it, and its free! what more can you ask for!

I use MSE on all of my computers and even recommend and install for friends and family as well.

I use MSE, I also have the latest version of Avast on another Win 7 box, and had been using McAfee (comes free from my ISP) on another....First off, they ALL "work". McAfee frankly can be a pain, and it runs with a bit more overhead than either MSE or Avast...so I left it behind. MSE appears to work great (you only know otherwise if it gets "borked", right?), and is very unobtrusive...same goes for Avast for that matter.

If what you are using now suits you, why bother switching? Me? I am careful, but also "cheap", and at this stage of the game, it appears to make little or no sense to pay for an AV/Firewall when so many excellent, FREE solutions are out there, but that is just my personal opinion...
