Solved Microsoft Security Essentials not Updating Definitions Error 0x80072E

Hello there!

I've been recently using this antivirus, and boy, I really like it's simplicity. I just have a little problem since past week. Every time I want it to look for updates, throws this error code (0x80072EE2) and is unable to download definitions. Windows Update is running with default settings and installing definitions manually does nothing (they just don't install and they don't throw any errors)

What can I do here? any advice?

Error code is not finding WinUpdateServer
Do you have another AV running besides MSE?
Have you tried the Windows Update Troubleshooter for Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Reset_Windows_Update_Full.bat

MSE still failing, Would like to see your
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
& C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Please copy, zip/compress & upload them.
Be advised the upload limits for .zip and .rar is 4.0 MB
You may have to upload them to a cloud storage. i.e. OneDrive Google Drive, etc.
Not long ago the upload limits on the Forum were much greater for .zip and .rar

This box has never had any other AV program installed.

UPDATE: I reran the Update Troubleshoot and this time it worked - Essentials has updated.

Okay, here are my logs. I tried the troubleshooter, but nothing. I ran also sfc /scannow, but wasn't able to fix some corrupted files. I tried the DISM Restorehealth command, but throws a 87 error (presumably because this cannot be done on W7)

I am still unable to update MSE ;_;

Okay, tinkering a bit about this, I found this thread, curiously enough...

KB4567409 Update for new Microsoft Edge for Windows 7 and 8 - June 17

Seems I was missing the latest Servicing Stack for Windows Update

With this and the SHA-2 update installed, MSE works again.

I wonder why I didn't get this updates? I had WU in automatic since always...
