I have tried the following AV's;

Kaprasky For W7 Beta - Didn't like it, kept asking me about every little thing.
Norton Anti-Virus Gamer Edition - Was fairly light-weight and worked well.
McAfee - Was decent, wasn't picking up much.
OneCare - Was using a lot of my resources and didn't pick up much.
Panda - Was a resource hog, extended my 'boot up' time about 2 minutes. Asked me about every little thing.
AVG - Was light-weight and picked up some things.
Morro - By far my favorite, light-weight, picks up things none of the following picked up on my system, and doesn't take forever to load.

Morro wins. =D

I have to agree with you, Morro is lightweight and it seems that it works very well. I have it installed on this PC (my main) for 7 RC, I would be using it on Vista (primary OS) if not for the year left on my McAfee subscription. I also have it installed on a 5 year old laptop with the following specs:

Intel Celeron M 550 @ 2.19 GHz
512 MB DDR (max RAM for a budget Dell Inspiron 1000)
SIS m650 mobo/integrated gfx
4200 RPM 40GB HDD
Windows XP

It runs well and better than any other free antivirus I've tried on it, and it does not appear to have any affect on system performance. Overall I would give MSE a 10/10.

I just uninstalled my (paid, sort of) A/V and windows defender from my XP partition. And installed MSE. it cut my processes from 35 to 29, and ram usage by about 10%, so i would say in retrospect, MSE IS light weight.

MSE

MSE is not lightweight. It uses over 50mb of memory.

MSE is light weight @ only 50 Mb its less than half of NOD32 and 1/10 of what firefox is. I think by light weight they mean not feature rich

It is just a basic antivirus and even though it is not feature rich, it still does it's job well. It runs really light on system resources but of course when there is much RAM left, it takes up more than the required which is sensible. I rather it be like this cause at least it ain't bloated.

Now what we need is a Microsoft Internet Security free of charge with Anti-Spam, Super Firewall and Best Malware and Real Time Protection. Basically a replica of the best internet security found today except that it should be free. Then, there will be so much competition that other product makers will make even better products and as this goes on, consumers benefit more and more and virus makers will give up. I would love to see that day when Apple can no longer criticize Microsoft.

If it goes up to 70mb while scanning, its probably better to reschedule the scans to a time when your not likely to be using the computer so it wont matter so much.

I was just messing around on my main OS w/ McAfee installed...
McAfee.jpg

Looking at that image, I notice that McAfee uses a very significant amount of system memory. The last nine processes in view are all for McAfee. This might make me reconsider removing McAfee and switching to MSE. In total, all of those processes add up to 117,108 KB (roughly 114.4 MB) of memory usage. Just thought it was interesting to note how much memory McAfee uses. Don't get me wrong though, I do like it and I have not had much of a problem with it, but it does use up around 2X as much memory as MSE and almost 4X as much memory as ESet. Note that this was during a scan however. Although for me it seems that McAfee picks the most inconvienent times to run a scan..

That's probably because he has so much RAM. When you have tons of free RAM available, your Anti-virus will use all the RAM that is available to make scans faster.
