I agree, but you'd be amazed at how many people and organizations still use it.

sure there are people still using IE6, you've got people running windows 95 pc's still and high schools where the students learn on windows 98 machines.

the article actually states that it is IE6 being hit, but IE8 is potentially vulnerable, i dont think IE8 users need to worry TOO much

valtonray, i wasnt saying that there is noone running IE6, i was merely stating that it is hardly "best practice" to use a browser that is (im COmputer terms) back in the bronze age

Hi all
I was actually surprised that IE6 will work in W7 -- I'm sure it doesn't -- but I got my W7 before the EU kufuffle over "Browser Choice".

I think most W7 installations out there still have IE8 installed by default even if people use other browsers.


I misread the original BBC article since I thought it DID refer to IE8 -- must have been mistaken.

no, i was just stating that while the vast majority have moved on there are still for all accounts and purposes archaic machines in everyday use.

im sure you could get ie6 to run on 7 but the real question is why would you want to. there are much easier ways to infect your computer.

Microsoft has issued an Advanced Notification for the out-of-band security bulletin it is releasing tomorrow for Internet Explorer at approximately 10 am PST. The patch will fix vulnerabilities in IE6, IE7, and IE8 on supported editions of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2—vulnerabilities notably exploited in the recent series of Chinese-based attacks against Google and 30 other tech companies.
