Hi, my first post here. Warning: I am 64 years old, have a basic knowledge of computers, but leave the "problems" to the experts.

So here's why I'm posting. I set Windows Essential to do a full scan last night. When my husband got up this morning, it was frozen. I checked the log and found this:

application hang occurred 5x
windows update client occurred 2x
Disk 4x
service control manager 3x
kernel-event tracking 2x
service control manager

"The program IEXPLORE.EXE version 11.0.9600.17937 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed."

Performance Information Rating scores:
processor 7.2
memory (RAM) 7.2
graphics 4.7
gaming graphics 5.6
primary hard disk 387 GB free (466 GB total)

My computer is set to run Essentials every week, but lately the icon has been orange, indicating a problem. So I thought I'd run it last night and this is what occurred.

It may be helpful to know that my husband's log-in for work requires Internet Explorer. I prefer Google Chrome. Could that be part of the issue? It's been that way for years....

I probably have given you more information than you need, but I am close to illiterate when it comes to fixing my computer, so please excuse my low level of knowledge here. Thank you to anyone who helps me (using very low-tech instructions). :o

PS I really did read through some posts regarding problems with Windows Essential and I wasn't sure if any of the fixes matched up with my problem.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would not recommend using MSE without Malwarebytes Premium = Not free.
Mbam free is okay and all but MSE really needs help and the free version is like catching up after the fact of infection pretty much why the Premium version is needed,

If you want to use the free version please switch to Panda free antivirus instead of MSE.
Since you're already having issues with MSE it would be best to install Panda and uninstall MSE.

Thanks, ThrashZone, for your suggestion. I used to have Malware on my computer but my computer guy deleted it. Now I know why. I'll try Panda and check back in.

Many thanks.

I should have made my user name "technologically challenged beyond belief."

Question 1: when I try to reply to a post, I type the information in, hit submit and then get a new screen asking for me to reply to the thread. Huh? Where did my first reply go????

Question 2: The YouTube video said you have to be in administrator mode. How do I get there?

Thank you.

Try the steps shown in that video and let us know where you encounter problems.
Right-click on the cmd shortcut (as shown in the video)
Select Run as administrator (as shown in the video)

Let us know if that works for you.

As far as what happened with the forum post - let's consider that a glitch and only deal with it if it happens over and over.

This forum has a very complete list of Tutorials for Windows 7.
The Tutorial section is a the top of every page.

Seldom does one have to leave the forum to see a how to or tutorial for Windows 7.

I would recommend reading them and using them.

First, I really would have not posted here if I had felt confidant to watch the YouTube video or a tutorial by myself. I have gotten myself in a lot of hot water in the past....

That said, THANKS to torchwood, PCL and ThrashZone for your patience and understanding with me. (Thanks for your encouragement, too, PCL!)

I DID it! I ran a chkdsk and all was well until just a few seconds ago....the little Essentials flag WAS green until just a moment ago. Ugh. Well, mission accomplished....I hope!

Now I need to ponder upgrading to Windows 10. . . but that's for another thread, and most likely I won't do it at all.:p

Again, thank you all very much for your kindness! Your random act of kindness for today!
