I have windows 7 home premium, my PC is: HP Pavilion s5700.

My problem is that when I try to use the installation disc (the small one) there doesn't seem to be a proper installation, the Wizard Setup doesnt come up even though it has technically been installed (i clicked on the file and installed parts myself), because it's there on the desktop: 'Microsoft 360 Accessory Status.' And when i click on it, the icon appears that shows if the controllers synced, but the controller wont sync at all - when i press the receiver button and the controller sync button at the same time, they both just keep flashing - i think because it is not installing right! Probably some sort of driver error?

The Usb is plugged in and the green receiver light on the small device is on and everything, it just wont sync at all and it really looks like there was some installation problem. I tried to call someone from xbox but they were pretty clueless.

I've tried all the troubleshooting things like trying to sync it away from any appliances, and making sure the batteries are full, i've even tried using another controller. It's definitely an official device from microsoft and everything.

Thanks for any advice on how to fix this - sorry if this post isn't as informative as it should be as well. Hopefully someone knows what to do if this is a common thing.

ok... insert your disk and open windows explorer... browse the contents of your disc and you will see the setup exe file. When software is installed remove the wireless dock and reboot your system. Once you have done that, attach it back but in some other usb port. Now try to sync the device... should work.

hey agent, thanks for your response. I went through the file and didn't find a 'setup exe file' but instead found a few files saying 'setup' in the different compartments and i just manually installed it like that.

on one file it said there was a 'compatibility issue' and said there was a download available on the microsoft website that would fix it - i downloaded it and yes it did fix it and i was able to fully install.

then i restarted my PC like you said, plugged the device in another port, and despite everything seeming to work the controller still wont sync. i'm not sure what the problem is, but it looks like my older issue was resolved, but the problem with getting the controller to work is still happening.
