Solved Migrate Xp to Windows 7

Hello. I want to migrate my xp to 7 and I need some help.

Right Now I have two partitions: one used by the OS and another one where I store my data (i.e: aprox 60 Gb of photos.... ).

My idea was to delete only the Xp partition, making a clean install of windows 7, and preserve my data partition

What would happen in this case? Windows 7 would "adopt" the previous data partition (It's NTFS format), or It would become invisible for Windows 7?

I don't recommend deleting your primary partition on a disk.
A better soution would be to put in win 7 install disk, accept to install and format the xp partition then install windows 7 to the partition.
You can format any partition in the installation progress.
If i were you, i would rename my XP partition to XP or something, to not to accidentally format your data partition.

No, Windows 7 will detect your 'Data Partition' as long as it's technically fine. (But the risk is on you)
But it is unlikely that you'll have problems.

Also... You can do a full backup of all your important files if you want to play perfectly safe.

Just do a Clean Install. It will format that particular partition for you and install Windows 7 on it. Though, I do recommend keeping one partition for your files and the other for your OS and programs. This way, if your Windows 7 is corrupted and you need to re-install, you won't lost anything or have to back-up.

If he has free disk space left on the XP partition, Win7 installation would put the old files in a Windows.old folder. There is no way to skip that step.
edit: well. ok I have just read the tut. but it is esentially the same what I have shown.
