Does anyone know of a minesweeper type game (pay for or free) which does not have a luck element in its play.

I don't think there is one because the very first click is always based on luck since you have no data to go from

Good Evening "SledgeDG"
I know you are correct about the luck element at the start on the Windows version. But it did not have to start like that. A safe square/s could be given at the start. Also with the Windows one, is that even well after a lucky start; it is common to still find that there is no way you can calculate a safe square. Another problem with the Windows version is that when you get blown up; the failed message can obscure the play area you have just failed on; thus you cannot see why you failed

Good Evening to you too, thesaint. I see where you're coming from but unfortunately I don't know of any version of said game that sports a different behavior. I just recall from when I was still playing that game I sometimes got to a spot where only a guess would get me further. It might have been possible tho that such a situation could be avoided, had I taken a different path in solving that specific puzzle...but never really followed through.
