Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables must be withdrawn

HDMI Org has confirmed that manufacturers of Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables have been told that their product is unlicensed and should not be sold.

TechRadar brought you the news last week that it was rumoured that hundreds of thousands of Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables are to be recalled because HDMI Org has deemed the cable system to be out of HDMI spec.

i haven't done any research, but one of the comments say:

It's fine provided that all components in the connection are HDCP compliant.

They're just getting their panties in a bunch because displayport is slowly catching up to HDMI. That and displayport cam be used without paying any licensing fees unlike HDMI, so they're also losing out on their cut for each device or cable.

HDMI was created for the single purpose of locking the video feed with HDCP. It's all about the money.

This does not mean that there will be no adaptors. If you read the article you will see that they imply that a HDMI cable must have a HDMI male end on both ends. They a disallowing HDMI on one end of the cable and Display Port in the other end of the cable.

This has nothing to do with adaptors. There just saying that you can't have a direct connection and that there must be an adaptor in use big deal. Don't jump off the brige yet.

Well when you look at the cost of these adapters then the cost of the HDMI cable....yikes! The cheapest solution was coming in around $30 +S&H with some the main stream even higher, so my $7 dollar cable works perfect and saved me a ton. Maybe I'll buy them completely out, just like 75 & 150 watt incandescent bulbs?

I got my adaptors last year and I paid $10.00. I think it was last spring when I got them. I have yet to spend more then $4.00 on my HDMI cables.
