Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables must be withdrawn

I got a cable with my monitor which is DVI at the video card's end and HDMI at the monitor's end and I get audio through it just fine, I guess they want my cable too?

Schroff87 you got lucky with that cable as most standard DVI-HDMI cables (and adapters) aren't pinned/wired correctly to work that way, most will only pass video.

As for them wanting it back, I doubt it as the monitor manufacturer probably paid the extortion (er, licensing) fee. :devil:

This is more what I'm used to seeing. No wonder these adapters don't ship with the video cards.

Guys, it's just the cables that are unlicensed, as an HDMI cable should have male HDMI connectors on both ends to be 'official'. The cables in question here are the ones with HDMI one end and Mini-DP the other; hence "bad".

Adapters are still perfectly valid, as they are not cables, and these are, in fact, what the HDMI people are saying should be used.

Yes but the cable IS an adapter...

The thinking that a cable and an adapter are and must be two separate things is a bit dinosaur... There are a lot of "cables" now that have the adapter electronics hidden in the connectors.

Sounds like the HDMI folks need to "get with the program"

So, one of these is cool and the other is outlawed? The difference: a somewhat longer wire.

Maybe we could just call them "Protracted Adapter Modules", which is a fancy term I just invented for an adapter with a bit of extra wire in between the connectors.

OK so the four displayport to hdmi cables came in and they ran 6.89 each and with shipping all four ran 39.48 compare that to one premium mini to hdmi cable below !

Noel Lee would disagree, as would Audioquest, and many other high end cable users. They for sure have there place but not in a computer system carrying data over huge runs like 2 meters, but just try to get a HD signal to pass cleanly over a 6 meter hdmi and the issues begin. Then the though is if a premium design handles the signal when a budget cable can't then does it perform better even at short distances? This isn't the place for this debate and in the audio world this is like the AMD vs Intel debate here....lol !
Do yourselves a favor and check this site out. it will blow your mind that wires can sound different and actually be treated as the integral component that they are in audio and video systems....not so much for computers as just don't require the same reference......or should they / will they in time?
