missing bookmarks firefox

The OP is not referring to cookies being placed in the browser, but the annoying cookie warning all over hell thanks to some "smart" bureaucrats in part of something called GDPR. It's just a money grab IMO and ill conceived. Great purpose, badly implemented.

Yes, I understand that!
It appears as though OP has tweaked a plethora of setting on the computer in question by the numerous posts. And the numerous issues therein.
I was attempting to alleviate the popup issue.
If you block all cookies you break most all websites from working.
I've never experienced all the issues OP is having with Windows 7 or any other OS ever!

Does anyone remember the

Altair 880
Packard Bell
Apple I, II, IIe, & GS.
TRS-80 and Tandy-branded computers

A few that I've owned?
Yes, I'm old! ;)

If sfc /scannow reports no errors & System Update Readiness Tool reports no errors, a Repair Install/In Place Upgrade most probably will complete successfully, however there are a few issues that will prevent it, one is not enough space on the drive.

I always recommend backup up your system to an external hard drive, with integrity verification before attempting any changes to your system. It's not a question of IF, it's a question of WHEN you will need it!

there are no cookies being blocked, its an addon that prevents the accept cookies message from popping up.
im not sure if we can clarify it any better than we already did several times.

How about the generic branded graphing calculator (never could afford a (Texas Instruments). This was my first "computer" so to speak in where I read the manual cover to cover and then some to know how to use the code and create little programs. One I made was a password safe, and another was a random password generator. This is where I created and stored my passwords and it's where the password was for my first ever email account with an email service back in the day that was like Protonmail today called ZipLip.

You continue to post a plethora of problems with your computer

Lets just stick to one issue at a time and not pin the OP to a board and throw knives.

I don't have problems with my computers, none of them.

So? I don't either and it's very rare and if in fact it happens I can fix it myself. But despite that people do have issues and come here for help.

We already, or at least I tried to establish what the OP was describing about the cookie thing. So there's no need to rehash it and then go on about the OPs issues from one thread onto the next. The extension the OP in fact uses suppress damn near all cookie warnings. SO there's no need to bring up a "solution" about blocking cookies or anything else out right. That's just a tangent that doesn't help the OP at all.

The favicons missing is something I have observed with certain bookmarks. Doesn't happen all the time, in fact it's an issue far and few between. But I don't know why it is other then the fact the bookmark link is not retrieving the favicon from the root of the bookmarked website where in fact the favicon lies.

Perhaps it's something code wise withen the browser its self or your network stack. There was an extension I used many years ago to fix this issue called Favicons Reloader. Might be interested in this: Alternative to FavIcon Reloader : firefox

I just want to point out here that Webextension code that Firefox in their infinite wisdom now uses for extensions (add-ons) is code that's plagued by nature with security and privacy ramifications. Since you indicated that you would rather use the older version of Firefox, I mentioned that you might want to check out Pale Moon. With Pale Moon it uses the old, but tried and true XUL code for extensions. This is what Firefox used to use until they decided to go full blown stupid and copy Chrome. This is why I departed from using Firefox long, long ago in the before time. LOL Yet I was an early user of Firefox and used Firefox for years. Prior to using Firefox I used a combination of Netscape and a little browser invented by some Norwegians called Opera. Back then Opera wasn't owned and operated by the communist Chinese. Now sadly it is. Then a browser called Phoenix came out which I began to use. After that a browser/email client came out simply called Mozilla or the Mozilla Suite. Can't remember now and I used that. After that it was nothing but Firefox and I customized it to high hell. Now I use Pale Moon and I customized it to high hell as well from withen the core code its self. Not a lot of core code changes, but a few.

Here's what a blank tab page looks like in my browser. (Bookmarks omitted on purpose) LOL

Anyway, if you can find an extension like the old Favicon Reloader that may work.

I agree with you as I do with most Sevenforums helpers!
I forgot about calculators yes, TI too.
I was referring to Dynentan's posts, many. Appears as though we don't get an issue fixed and two more are posted, that is what I was referring to. As you are aware, quite often, OPs take it upon themselves to start trying supposed fixes on the Net, that quite often cause more harm than good. I'm sure you are aware of this also. I always enjoy reading your responses/explanations!

well i only had to finish updating windows, that was one of the only few problems left.
but i was getting tired of waiting for the last updates to be installed, so i made a mistake of installing some programs to help me fix windows update which has caused a lot of issues that i have been trying to solve, but im probably going to run aomei backupper a bit later, since i have a couple of months old backups that are working well.

Glad to hear you are almost complete with the "repairs"!
Most programs that purport to fix Windows Update problems, as you are now aware, don't fix anything and quite often cause problems. Backing up to an external HDD is the safest method. Noticed that you were having problems with Repair Install on a different thread. If the program hangs as you say it did when saving your data, files/folders quite often it is a lack of disk space on your drive. Windows cannot create the backup C:\Windows.old.
This is why I recommend running Disk Cleanup Very-Low-Disk, it is the extended version of Disk Cleanup, it includes dump files, logs, everything that can be safely removed, windows updates pending/downloaded, etc. Speeds up the backup, saves disk space, and speeds up the repair install. ;)

If you do wish to try applications to try to fix problems, by all means backup you system first, if it trashes your OS or causes other issues, you simply reimage the drive.
External Hard Drives are getting cheaper all the time. You get larger drives and they are more reliable over time. SSDs use flash memory similar to RAM only persistent, i.e. it retain memory without power and although much faster, they don't last as long, not what you want in a backup drive.
I also only connect the backup drive for backups, the disconnect it after. Safer!

Did you install the prerequisites that are included in Shawn's post?

Wishing your and yours the best!

Snick

Dynentan Hello you are not alone, there's lots of US

I can't stand new fire fox as well, what i really hate is being creatively distracting by anything being changed because some .org got more funding, so in order to scoop up the new bucks they must change crap around, if your really into hate, watch how "Libre" office has become the most over built entrance to a lost pyramid in hell "Cause they got more funding" :banghead:
I had disappearing book marks for a while on my recently deceased XP, oddly when i went and saved the bookmarks file and transferred them back again, the lost ones reappeared, sometimes my desk top preferences would not all show up correct as well, other similar gone and back again stuff with file pages, sorry for such a non tech term, but then my hard drive began to sound very very un happy  , one day it got so very unhappy that it sounded like a rusty shovel being dragged across a cheap side walk  and then comp would not bring up desk top, just my artsy back screen, no short cuts.
then the next day when i started the XP all i got was about 300 little different color boxes on screen.
moral of story---noises count for something , I am certain all these problems in my case was a 16 year old western long lasting but now dying HD, not a software issue.
