Welcome to the Se7en Forums! 22kes7552b

Was the other drive now removed plugged into the first sata port or an ide drive? If so the Windows installer placed the boot files on that drive instead of the drive 7 is presently on explaining the error. What art20 is pointing to there is the startup repair tool in the repair tools section you find a link for right under the "Install Now" button when first booting up with the 7 dvd. That's at the top of the list of the tools there.

The "bootrec /fixboot" and "bootsec /fixmbr" commands as well as the "bootrec /rebuilldbcd" commands mentioned are typed in at the command prompt option at the bottom of the same repair tools list at a separate time since you would have to reboot again to get to that once the startup repair is used. Those are good tools to get familiar with for fture reference in case needed.

At least your present problem seems to be solved for the time being. :D

I had a different but similar problem when adding in a new host drive for the 64bit 7 with the same on a smaller now second drive plus setting up a dual boot with the 32bit 7 which went on last to a 3rd drive. The 32bit installer added the new drive's 64bit installation there in as a boot option but totally ignored the second drive's install there!

How to make a triple boot by unintended consequences? When going to install a Linux distro by chance on a usb flash drive the Windows mbr was trashed by Grub! ut ohhh....

Ironically to get the mbr repaired I used the 64bit dvd's startup repair there first in inadvertently added the second drive's installation in as a new boot option. When the new drive's 64bit still wouldn't start up the 32bit dvd was then used with the startup repair and commands at the prompt to follow.

Surprize to see all 3 installations in the BCD store later! :D Later the default OS was simply set in the advanced system settings>Startup and Recovery section. That saw the totally separate original stand alone install on the second drive added in showing these tools do work.

The EacyBCD program is a tool you use when mixing older versions with 7 there and could have been used for seeing the second drive's installation added in at the time. The irony was simply seeing how the repair tools worked out.

that seems like it took a loong time lol, but to me it all seems random it works when it wants to and doesnt want it wants to. i mean i upgraded my motherboard on wednesday fixed everything up, then this missing bootmgr thing came up and after hours and hours of exactly the same thing, it decided to work suddenly :s

Once you swapped out the board + cpu hopefully you saw a clean install of 7 afterwards. That's a major hardware change there requiring a fresh start. The "missing bootmgr" message came about from removing the other drive as mentioned before as well as the board swap.

Since having a new board + cpu is almost like having an entirely new build the solution: back everything up and nuke the OS drive in order to see a nice clean install of 7 go on without further startup problems plus a new system registry to work with.

Once a new build here is finished the present host/boot drive will moved into the new case and need to be wiped at that for starting everything over fresh. The two drives used for storage will be following as well while two older drives stay behind. Eventually those will be wiped as well since that's where Vista and XP will "meet their maker" in a sense no longer having any need for the two previous versions.
