Missing CD/DVD Driver when installing Win7

Hi Everyone,

I've been searching forums for over 3 days looking for something that works... so far nothing.

I have an HP Pavillion DV6500 laptop with CD drive model: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L ATA Device.
I had Windows 7 64bit installed on it before and it worked great..

I wanted to do a clean system restore due to an issue with my graphics card driver. When I tried that, it told me that there is a missing CD/DVD driver. I ended up restoring to Vista 32bit but I still want Win7 64bit.

I already tried burning the iso at a slower speed. Didn't work.
Tried putting the iso on a usb drive. Still getting the same error.
Tried the regedit fix where you delete the lowerfilter. Didn't work.

Please help!

Normally if you are connected to the internet via hard wired ethernet connection during the install, win7 install/update will find almost all drivers needed for the install.

I'm going from 32bit to 64bit so I'm doing this before windows even boots up... does it still connect to the internet at that point?

Of all the desktop computers I have installed, it connects with the boot up of the win7 DVD

Looks like I have that same DVD drive, it did not need drivers during the win7 install.

I've never had an issue with this before.... I had win7 even during the beta period and never had problems with it.... not sure why i'm having an issue now....it's driving me crazy.

Can it be that I need to update the IDE driver? if so where do I find it.... not sure if this helps or not but I have an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS graphics card....

Since you are basically doing a clean install to x64, try looking at this tutorial to optimize your HD

When I installed vista it made a 10 gig partition for a system restore... I figure I would delete and reformat it when doing a clean 64bit install through the custom install menu...

in any case... i'm not too worried about "optimizing" right now... I just need to solve the issue with the missing cd/dvd driver...

Going back to post #1, you burned your own .iso to DVD & USB flash, but you get this install error. Where did you get your .iso ? You might have a bad download

I got it from digital river... http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/X15-65733/X15-65733.iso

Yes, that is a valid .iso from them. I would re-download a new copy of it to a different folder. Then Burn with ImgBurn at 4x speed with verify ON !

Will try it... better than nothing. Re-Downloading it will take a while.

In the mean time... anything other suggestions? Should I download 32bit to try it out and see if it works? I read that it hasn't worked for others either...

Yes, I know the DL will take awhile. But a good DL & Burn should install without needing any DVD drivers

If its the intel chipset download and install this - intel matrix storage manager -

Can cause problems when you have AHCI enabled in the bios and you install the os, and dont install the matrix manager - installing this fixes problems with dvd drives.

I ended up "updating" to 32bit windows 7 and from there, I installed the Intel Matrix storage driver... and then I was able to do a clean install to 64bit. Not sure what fixed it... but it works now.
