Sorry if this is in the wrong area.

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron and was missing the msstdfmt.dll file. I downloaded it and put it in the system32 folder, but it still says it is not there. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Thank you

Mike

Harbors,
Are you running a 64 bit system? In that case, go to "C:\windows\SysWOW64" directory and open the command prompt there, as admin. Then type the regsvr32 commands there.

I put the dll file in both the system32 and syswow64 folder and ran the command and it said it succeeded but I still get the same results. So I do not know what is going on.

Now I get the following error

Componet actskn43.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered or a file is missing or invalid

It may be malware so best to scan with malwarebytes antimalware first.

But actskn43.ocx may be also a sigmatel audio driver file. Do you have a sigmatel audio device? Try registering the file in system32/syswow64. If it cannot find the file, you'll need to download/update your audio driver from the Intel/sigmatel site. Hopefully, that'll sort out the problem.

Hi! This is how you do it,
if you don't have this dll file already you can download it here,
then you extract the file to either C:\WINDOWS\system32\ Or C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\
depending on if you have a 32 bits or a 64 bits version of Windows 7,
if you have a 32 bits version it goes into System32 and for 64 bits versions it goes into SysWOW64,

then you navigate to the start menu,
go to Accessories and locate the command Prompt,
rightclick on the icon for the command prompt and chose run as Administrator,
then you enter the following command,

for Windows 7, 32 bits users

C:\WINDOWS\system32\regsvr32.exe Msstdfmt.dll

and for Windows 7, 64 bits users

C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe Msstdfmt.dll

then hit the enter key on your keyboard

Done

I hope that helps:rolleyes:

Just download the missing DLL file, unzip it and copy to system directory:
C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP, Vista, 7)

If you use a 64-bit version of Windows, you should also place DLL file in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\

I am sorry but it's not that easy, the DLL must be registred or else the system can't find it even if you have placed it in the correct folder, and you can only do that if you run the command prompt as administator and reg it with the commands as I wrote in my previous post, and there is no need to have the dll in both Sytem32 and SysWOW64, if you have 32bits = System32 and for 64bits = SysWOW64
