Hi,

I have two machines running Win7 64 bit.- one is lenovo laptop t540p, another is a Thinkcentre desktop.

Since about Sept.-Oct. this year both machines would hang up forever when running Windows Update (I always installed updates manually). So, I did some "research". I run a few "fixes" and downloaded some updates manually from MS website and after that Windows Update started to work again (or so I thought).

So, when I ran the Windows Update I would get the following message (on both computers): "Your system is up to date, no updates are available". After not getting any updates for about 3 weeks I suspected that something was not right and did more research: it looked like the updater was damaged/not working properly.
After searching the web I found this fix on MS website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

I followed he instructions for a manual reset of the components and was able to "fix" both machines- got updates yesterday on the desktop, today on the laptop.

However, while manually re-registering the .dll files, I found that many of them were missing from the System32 folder.

I just run the system scan (sfc scannow) command on the laptop and got the message: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation".

Do I need to worry about the missing dll files?

Is it possible to get the files from my back-up disc w/ Win.7?

Can I download the missing files?

Thanks a lot.

It can be that the Dll were replaced on a update.
As System File Check (SFC) didn't find any issues and if the computer is running without problems, I wouldn't worry.

problem NOT solved

Hi,
just ran the sfc on the desktop, and got errors: SFC found corrupt files and was unabl to fix some of them.
I saved the log so if anyone is able and willing to look into it I can post the log file here.

It looks like it could not repair/find new copy of the idndl.dll file.

Thank you

Hi Megahertz07,

Thank you for your help.
Both of my machines run Win7 Professional, not Home Premium like the link you provided says;
however, since my laptop appears to be fine, I e-mailed myself a copy of the file from my laptop but I was unable to delete the old .dll file and paste the new one into the Win32 directory becvaue of lack of permission. I tried to change permissions but was unable to do it.
Is it possible to delete the oll file and paste the new one into the Win32 directory? How do I change permissions?
thanks again
