has anyone seen missing drives in the system restore settings screen? both my C and D drives are showing as missing at the bottom, and identical drives show at the top. Is this something to be concerned about?

thanks

  1. Have you added or disconnected any new drives lately?
  2. Are you able to manually create a system restore point?
  3. Can you turn off system protection completely on all drives, restart and then enable system protection on drive C?

thanks for the reply andrew129260,

1. there have been no hardware changes to the system, I did add a virtual DVD drive Elby Clone Drive, but that was months ago.

2. I can create a restore point manually.

3. I am able to turn off and change the system protection.

if I try to make changes to either disabled drive I get an error (see pic), maybe a registry error??

this has just appeared today. I've had no crashes, BSOD's, hang-ups, or viruses. The only change were yesterdays windows updates, 11 if memory serves, 4 for office, the rest for windows.

  1. Please follow this tutorial and post the results:

  2. Please try the following:
Please select the (C) (Missing) Drive and select the button to configure the settings for this drive in the System Protection tab.

Select the Radio Button to turn off system restore for this (spurious) drive.

The (C) (Missing) item on the list of drives will then disappear.

Now select the correct Local Disk (C) (System) disk in the list. Hit the Configure Button.

Now change the settings, as you wish. Press OK.

Use option 2, what are the results?

That's happened to me before too, just highlight the missing ones then click the configure button and turn off system protection for each missing one.

You still have the actual protection on the non-missing ones.

That can happen after a restore.

#2 was the charm. it did threaten to delete all the restore points, but they remained intact.

I did run sfc and it came back with no integrity violations.

thanks to everyone who helped
