I've just done a forum search regarding this topic, and am amazed to see how many other forum members have experienced the same or a similar problem.

In the past I have manually created a few restore points, usually in periods when my pc was functioning particularly well. This morning I experienced a few strange problems with a particular program, so went to do a system restore only to discover that I had no restore points at all!!!

I doubt that the cause of this problem is disc space, as I have 640Gb, and am currently only using about 20% of that.

I do, however, use CCleaner and Advanced SystemCare 4 quite regularly. Are these programs known to eliminate restore points? I thought they did just the opposite, and created restore points before analysing/modifying or deleting.

I have never known CCleaner to do this but I don't know about Advanced System Care 4 but I doubt it would do that as well. There are a couple of ways though that might explain why you don't have any restore points. First is System Restore turned on, Second is there enough space allocated for it to create restore points ie: is the slider bar at least set to at least 5%. Third you haven't used Disk Cleanup have you and manually deleted the restore points have you?

CCleaner does have the ability to delete RPs but you have to do it deliberately and it will not remove the most recent one. Do you use any disk defragmentation software other than windows own? They can cause loss of RPs.

*Is it absolutely necessary to use both CCleaner & Advanced SystemCare 4?
I would be suspicious of a program that claimed it -

Advanced SystemCare Free (formerly Advanced WindowsCare Personal) has a one-click approach to help protect, repair, clean, and optimize your PC.

FYI - No registry cleaner is completely safe and the potential is ever present to cause more problems than they claim to fix.
THEREFORE
If you do not have knowledge of the registry, then you would probably be better off leaving it alone, and definitely not placing blind trust in a program to do the job for you.
