I've got 2 new sticks of ram from a friend for free. These are the two sticks Newegg.com - A-DATA Gaming Series 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model AX3U1600GB2G9-CG The sticks i currently have are this Newegg.com - A-DATA XPG Gaming Series v2.0 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model AX3U1600GB2G9-DG2 I know you shouldn't mix ram but the sticks are almost identical will there be issues if I run two of reach in one machine? Thanks in advance!

I have run mixed ram before with no problems, it's not the best thing to do but the only way to find out is to do it and see..If the computer becomes unstable then you'll know. I noticed the latency and voltage are different I would be cautious I have never done that I have done different gigs though only of the same exact specifications...

If the new stick is listed in the qualified vendors list. Should be ok.

It's not a good idea to mix RAM.

I do agree with seth in that the specs should be the same. Make sure you're not pushing 1.8volt in the RAM as one set is listed as 1.65-1.85volts while the other set is listed as 1.55-1.75volts. You'll have to find a happy medium.

On the flip side you'll now have to make sure the RAM is getting at least 1.65 volts now as setting to 1.55volts will starve the set requiring 1.65volts.

Basically you'll now have to "manually" set your RAM's voltage setting!

Good luck.

plug them in and see, we can't tell you if it will work or not since it is very unlikely that someone has the exact same setup of you on this forum.

Since you are running x64, you may get a small advantage from the extra ram.
When mixing ram like you have, it defaults to the slowest speed.

I am confused. what speed is it going to run at if both sets are 1600?

It'll run @ 1600MHz since both sets are 1600.

The only issue is making sure the voltage of the RAM is set manually as most motherboards will set a voltage of 1.5, not 1.6 which the other set requires.
