Monitor issues, black flickering screen on power up.

Hey guys, usually pretty self sufficient when it comes to hardware issues but i have no experience with monitors going awry and seek some advice.

The issues a relatively simple one, when first starting the computer there is a problem with the monitor getting power, the power light stays off and the screen, completely black flickers making a clicking noise gaining a very slight gain in brightness all the while the power light staying off.

After unplugging from the power, and disconnecting the vga connection a couple of times eventually the power light comes on and the screen works.

During use there are no issues with the picture and it works fine, it is only when the computer has been shut down and the screen off for a period of time i have this issue getting it back on.

Any help as to what it is appreciated i suspect it has come to the end of it's life as it is almost 3 years old now.

The monitor in question is a GNR, showing as a plug and play on devices and running of a gforce 8500 gt.

Can you try another VGA cable or is it hardwired to the monitor, like some are ?

No it's not hardwired i'll give that a go later and see if it's the cable.

Any other things it could be keep em comming guys cause i'll just test and eliminate one after the other if one solution doesnt appear to work.

Might check for a DEGAUSS menu button on the monitor, also. Try resetting it a few times.

What happens if you turn the monitor off but leave the computer itself on? Does the monitor come back on normally after, say, 5mins of being powered off?

Haven't tried just leaving it, been just disconnecting/reconnecting the vga cable and unplugging/replugging it back in until it eventually puts a picture up.

Even though it is plugged in and turned on the power button says off and it eventually goes green and comes on after the reconnecting of wires, all the while the screens clicking away in eternal blackness.

Sounds like a bad starter/inverter, hopefully not but if so it's an internal problem and not even worth fixing usually.

Ok so got some more information about the fault which should help indicate exacly what it is.

Today i decided to just turn the monitor on without powering up the pc, the problem occurs here, the power button does not light up on the monitor and it flickers clicking away.

I left this for about 3-5 mins, eventually the green power button started blinking, all the while still clicking, after about another 30 seconds the screen jumped into life and continued working again.

Does that sound like a starter issue? i plan to just buy a new one if it wasnt a power cable/vga issue anyway they are cheap enough these days just wanted to double check.

I would run it until it dies (If that doesn't drive you crazy) and save and grab a new display. It may last long enough to save, or if you've got the cash and don't want to wait, or if it's too annoying.

It's simply not worth fixing these days, you can find fantastic deals online, let me know if you'd like advice between different LCD panel technologies, or LED. Also HDTV's are so cheap they're worth considering as well, depending on your needs.

And yes, this sounds "exactly" like a bad unit. It's certainly not the cable, or the PC.

Yea thought as much, thank's a lot for the help, i'll just grab a cheap one somewhere only need it for general use and some online gaming nothing amazing. Just wanted to double check and see that it wasn't something simple.
