Solved overclocking gpu and get lots of black flickering

i brought up mhz about 4 for my gpu core clock and mem clock, and the pc flipped out with black lines running down and or up it. Restarts works safely. Then randomly get a bsod, which was of course the hardware for ati, the thing is the settings were never saved and i made sure of it after i overclocked and reset everything just to be double sure.then after that bsod, i played all night games and no problem. so bsod is no worry to me, i just dont get the black screens.

seeing that it is a Laptop and not much room for cooling and any overclocking can kill because of the bad cooling you might have wrecked your GPU just because of that little spike that it didn't need

Best thing to do is if it is an older laptop open it up blow it out check it to see if anything is clogged if you are not able to do this yourself you can always have techs do it

Also I you could try re-installing the drivers. Maybe it messed them up when it flipped out.

The inside is clean and i mean, the temperatures are all fine and dandy and even when i overclocked it a bit the temps barely moved. Its just if i bring it down or up even the black lines show up.

Well tbh a HD4200 is bottom of the barrel and probably couldn't handle any changes pretty much onboard graphics

haha yes, i was just trying out new things like i find myself often doing. Sadly i cant afford anything better, but this runs well for age of empires 3 and minecraft and thats all i play. Ah if only i could afford a better machine.

This is just one reason why overclocking anything in a laptop is a thoroughly bad idea. Many laptops run hot even at stock speeds and overclocking makes the problem worse. Laptops are not game machines and nothing you can do will change that.

If it is your only rig, and you can't afford to replace it, I'd advise against pushing it much, if any.

Overclocking a older laptop is like pulling the pin on a grenade. You have minimal air flow so cooling is barely adequate when the system is new and clean. Add eight years of dust and cookie crumbs...
