Hi,

I know this has been asked a million times on the web already but its seriouslly annoying me now.

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) keeps turning the monitor off after 15 Mins of in-activity.

However - before it does that at 14 Mins and 30 Seconds it sorta does a quick flash - then at exactlly 15 mins does the turning off.

All the power options are set to Never. (I have even created my own power plan for this)

I have never had this problem on this PC before - this is a new install - and since then it has been doing this.

(That makes me reluctant to think its the BIOS or Video Card)

Any ideas would be most welcome?

Thank you in advance.

Hi I think it might be your monitor's setting. Also check in the monitor's menu if you have any power saving options enabled.

Hi just an update - I still get the flash (every 15 mins - followed by loads of hard drive activity) but i have stopped the monitor turning off.

The flash is still annoying though - Id like to stop it doing that if anyone knows what it is?

What had happend was - when i copied my new power plan from high performance, I had somehow forgot to change "Switch the monitor off after 15 Minutes"

Even though I had changed that setting on the new power plan - it somehow ignored that and used what it had been copied from (High Performance).

Just thought that might help anyone else with this issue.

So steps were...

1) Change power plan back to old one (High Perfomance in my case)

2) Delete Created power plan

3) Change all settings to what you want them to be when you copy it to a new plan

4) Create new plan copying the now changed default one from windows (High perfomance / Ballenced etc)

It now works!

But like i say - i still get the 'Flash' every 15 mins.

So it will flash after 15 mins / flash again after another 15 mins (of inactivity of course) and on and on...

No idea what thats about?

What is the screensaver set to?
If you have it set to 15 minutes, it may be kicking in right before the monitor shuts off.
That may be flash you're seeing.
Set it to (None).

the flash is at 14 mins 30 seconds (not 15 mins - sorry)

Also i dunno its almost as if the screen switches off and on really quick (like a split second) cant notice it - but can enough for it to catch the eye.

The flashing has been since install - it also trys to access the floppy drive when it does so.

Also the screen saver has been set to none since install.

Now its even stranger - just rebooted again.

No longer get the flash - but still tries to access the floppy drive at exactly 14 mins 30 seconds each time.

Really weird

Everything is on never - hard disk - moniter - everything.

Also i thought it might have been the virus scanner or something so i stopped it loading at startup - in my trey i now have - volume control and network connection.

In msconfig startup list - i only have the java updater.

Also whatever it is - its defo doing it at exactlly 14 mins 30 seconds each time (ive been timing it on a stopwatch)

- so nothing loading at startup - not even a virus scanner - yet without fail - hard drive activity - then floppy drive access - exact to the second.

Do a google search for the above, if you have any HP components installed.
It could be the culprit.

Wow, did anyone read his original post ????

I had the same issue with a Biostar Motherboard. Everything was set to never and the monitor would go off and the hard drive would spin up as if the machine was restarting but it wasn`t. It had NOTHING to do with the monitor. I think it was all windows. I have no direct answer as to why it did it. The ATI card works fine. After a few reinstalls the problem has seemed to have vanished on about 5 different hard drives.

Yes, yes I did. With millions of different hardware configs, it must be Windows fault. Yup, why didn't I realize this? :sarc:
