Even if not, you can see that most 19 in monitors are between 20 and 40 watts of real measured power usage... THe only monitors that hit 100+ watts are the huge 27-30 inch variety.

Where did you get the 1.2 amp figure from? It is 240V X 1.2A= 288W. There should be, if no sticker, some raised specs numbers on your monitor power brick on on the back of the monitor.

i know feal that is why there most be something wrong o n the back with the amp and volt as it cannot be 120 watts also my tv have 1.2amp and 230 and near that it says it only uses 50 watts max

Another thing to consider is that inside these devices is a transformer which converts the actual volts to something MUCH lower, say, 12V or 36V.
I wouldn't stress over it.

it is just that i search for 100 watts monitior and the search only came up with 23 and 30 inchs montior with high specs

Doing the math your TV is running on 41.6666V Max.

monitor is running at 41 watts that is not bad also on the back is 50-60hz what is that i agree on 41 coz i no montior that i can find at 19 inchs that goes over 70 watts also my CRT monitor that i do not use operates at 120 watts i seen 100 montiors on a website which were 19 inch and the highest one was 67 watts

Well as I said before, those ratings for V and A on the outside are not for what your thinking they are for. Most likely they are mainly for consideration of the gauge of wire to use for the power cord and for instances where multiples are hooked up to a single power circuit and safety code requires not overloading the wiring. SO they are WAY cautiously rated. They state that the max V can be 230 and the max Amps can be 1.2 Not even that both would ever be used at the same time.

The fact that the V is stepped down interally means nothing in this case. In fact if it's a CFL LCD then some of the voltage is stepped up by 20-30 times. It doesn't change the fact that externally, on the mains, those are the max usage ratings. Tag does not reflect max A on any internal individual circuit, only on the main power cord.

Bottom line, the external tag is not meaningful for calculating how much power it will use in daily use. Especially when you factor in personal monitor brightness preferences. You need a watt meter or to search on line for someone else who has used a watt meter for you (Such as that PC magazine article I linked too).

And if you think that was hard, try calculating the energy usage of your desktop with it's 12 different components in it Especially with video cards and CPUs now constantly changing their clocks on demand from second to second.

I had just thought of it
50Hz-60Hz is for the type power you have in Ireland. the switch is there because its most likely sold all over Europe where there are differing power available. Hz=1 cycle, alternating current reverses that many times per second.

I knew it was an LCD but it probably has a fluorescent back light which uses a high voltage step up circuit

i think it is a tft lcd also this montior is from the december 2007 as it says on the back but it surely it would not use over 60 watts also how would i know if it had a fluorescent back light also on the montior menu would it not have a option for a back light here is the monitor http://is01.thegumtree.com/image/extrabig/69885209.jpg
