Yes, that game we all love is doing it again...

I recently got a new computer for going to school, a laptop so it would be managable, and also because my old desktop was from '03 (which ran it great)

This new laptop is a toshiba with the (new(ish)) i3 core, and 4gb RAM, so i don't think those are the problem here. I'm running windows 7 premium home 64 bit. graphics card is the one that came in the system, which is (i think) intel graphics media accelerator HD. I am by no means a genius about this stuff (else i would not be asking here), but i don't see why it wouldnt work. I've installed it in compatability mode (running the setup program in compatability for service xpsp2 (what i had before), and then running the game itself in compatability mode.

i have also looked around for other fixes, and none of them seem to work, i've tried downloading the windows vista fix found here TSL Windows Vista Fix Utility Download, Knights of the Old Republic 2 Utilities

i always get to the same spot.
i get to the main menu, it works great, start a new game, i can do all the character customization and stuff, it loads the rolling yellow letters that makes the star wars franchise, then the screen cuts, and i get the message "kotor 2 has stopped working" or something like that.

kotor 2 is the only game i'm having problems with, i run all sorts of other games (usually at full graphics) with no problems, including bf 2142, civ 4, EVE online, Homeworld 1 and 3, battlefront 2, sins of a solar empire, all without problems.

Have you tried running it as administrator and compatibility mode together? Worked for one game that i have called Crossfire.
