I turned the pagefile off on my laptop. It has 8 gig or ram and an SSD. I haven't had any programs complain about no pagefile or seen any nag screens about it being set too small.

Check It Out

If you are really concerned why not look into it. There several ways to check, some third party. But one I know that is available to you is Task Manager on the performance tab. Check your number on Physical Memeory (MB)

It is not too much asked for and it is available - in XP.

W7 still has that holdover called the pagefile, what do you need that for when 4GiB now costs less than 1GiB of a few years ago?

Pagefile was pretty critical for XP. Man did it use a lot the pagefile when under 512 mb of RAM :drool:. And even beyond that it did use it too damn much for my tastes (heck I had 2 Gigs, stop using it you %&&$&$)
And XP is supposed to be able to run in 64 MB of RAM (128 recommended), mind me.

Which is why when you install Windows 7 even relatively older hardware runs better as long as it has more than 1 GB of RAM. Better Ram management. Significantly better.

I'm only part way through the new build as time allows, have it [mobo] populated with 4GiB DDR3 and for the MDP-130 gotta run 32-bit,as explained earlier.

Its just that, if page file is still there, it wouldn't have hurt them to have kept the colour schemes from before, though I'm trying to re-find the post from the user that already integrated them from his XP into 7
or just use IownAmoneyPit's method of getting the same effect.

Rejected Windows 8 but looking forward to the Windows 8.1 preview in couple days, if it turns out good which I think it will, I will be migrating to Windows 8.1 for the better security.

Simply means Windows 8.1 will be more secure both in the OS kernel level and web browser (Internet Explorer 11).

I was pretty much the same moving from XP to Vista, the OS itself was horrible but Vista had better security than XP.

Same goes for 7 to 8 and then 8 to 8.1 which is a bit more minor since 8.1 is considered a service pack more than a complete OS upgrade but 8.1 is still going to be more secure then 7 and 8 nonetheless considering they've changed the kernel in 8.1, added some much needed features to Windows Defender and upgraded to the web browser that is Internet Explorer 11.

I solved my security problem by running all internet activity thru my Linux virtual partitions - Mint Mate and Zorin in my case. That may not be a 100% protection but it is 100 times better than any Windows flavor.

If you want securtiy, try Linux. Nasa uses linux exclusively.

If you want a decent desktop experience, stick with 7, Linux Deepin, or Linux Mint.

My favourite is Linux Deepin, it boots twice as fast as win8. It is also free software..
