Solved Most safety & Best way for Flashing (updating) BIOS

Hello, all SF members.

Thanks to all SF members, who helped me and who will help me.
I'm trying to back that help to other members, when I can.

Now, because I'm now crazy for hardware,software, OC and other, I want to update (some people call it Flash) my BIOS.

I read on some other forums and website, that BIOS version can :
- Add support for more devices
- Fix some system errors and other
- Better system functions (like I/O system)
- Can so much affect Overclock.

Because all this, especially last thing , I want to do it.

My motherboard is ASUS P8H61-M LX2 (as you can read), and my BIOS is ASUS EFI BIOS Tool.

I need some safety and best way for doing it.
My problem is : Where I'm live, there is often (not so often, but I don't have luck), interruptions in power supply system (not only in my house, that is in my street). I know if my computer, turn off or restart, my motherboard will be without BIOS and there is problem.

Questions :
1. Can anyone find for me best way for doing it , or write if you know one ?
2. How to make backup of BIOS ?
3. Is there any way to recover BIOS when I got any problem, and must turn off or restart computer ?
4. For BIOS file : Are I must update BIOS from floppy or flash drive, or I can use BIOS file from my Hard Drive ? My flash is broken , and dont have other.

Note : In BIOS , I have ASUS Flash BIOS Utility if that can help.

OK so you have established that a newer Bios code supports something that you want (OC support), but do you want to do that at the risk of a power failure during the update ? I wouldn't.
The Asus Bios update tool is probably the easiest way to go. I really think you need to either change your mind or obviously take the risk of a disasterous outcome.

Or take your kit to a mates house where the power is stable and they are net connected.

Maybe, I will not do it. However, my computer can't get best OCs, and current BIOS is good. When I have stable power supply , I will do it.

Do you mean that a BIOS flash in general can do some or all of what you list?

Or do you mean that you have specific information from the motherboard manufacturer that a particular new BIOS for your specific motherboard was designed to do any of those things you list?

In other words: what makes you think that the BIOS flash you want to do will improve your PC's performance in any way?

Hello Trinty, like I have explained to you previously, your MoBo and BIOS are not your biggest hurdle to overcome for you to Overclock. It's your CPU. The G620 is not really meant for Overclocking. If you aren't having any support issues, otherwise, leave the BIOS as is. If you are experiencing some incompatibility or crash issues, then it might be worth you flashing the BIOS. My MoBo is 5 revisions behind on the BIOS and I am not having any issues, therefor, I have decided to leave well enough alone.

I said, I'm going to buy new CPU. For maybe less than one month
I think that will be i7 with K.

You do misunderstand.

If the new BIOS is not KNOWN to solve problems you have, there is no reason to flash the BIOS.

You appear to be hoping or guessing.

What is your evidence?

All the more important considering your power outages.

An H61 motherboard will not support overclocking by changing the multiplier of a k suffix CPU. If you want to go that route, you'd need a motherboard with a P67 or Z68 chipset. (Or one of the new Ivy Bridge motherboards. I'm not sure whether all IB boards support raising the CPU multiplier.)

As regards flashing the BIOS, it's usually done to add support for new CPUs, or to improve compatibility with more makes of RAM. It's not recommended if you don't need the changes. It may not give any performance improvement.

The safest easy way to do it is using the Asus EZflash utility, which doesn't require the PC to boot into any operating system. If you live where power is unreliable, make sure that the PC is connected to a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with enough capacity to sustain the PC during the whole flash time.

Note that I've been flashing BIOSes pretty much willy-nilly since the late 1990s. I never rendered a machine unbootable until last year: I had a couple of P67 systems with UEFI. In both cases, the flash appeared to proceed normally, but the board never booted again. The only fix other than an RMA would have been to replace the EEPROM chip that held the BIOS. (On one board, that was impractical; the chips were soldered on. It was actually an MSI dual-BIOS board, but the backup BIOS was never invoked.)

Hello. Thanks for answering and helping me.

For BIOS, I will not do it, while I don't bought new CPU or more RAM.

For Overclocking , I don't want to increase multiplier. I want to set lower multiplier (some members said, I can do it), and to increase FSB rate. I know that G620 have locked multiplier , and SB don't like to increase FSB rate. Best Overclock is 2.7-2.9GHz. Not good potential but whatever, I have this.
