Motherboard and memory compatibility problem

Hi,

I recently upgraded my computer and brought some new DDR3 memory for my motherboard (Asus m5a78L).

Man code for the RAM: CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 (2 x 4GB 1333 corsair ram)

The problem is that I miss read the compatibility list and this memory is not on the motherboard memory support. My PC has been crashing randomly whereby the screen would freeze and the speakers would emit a loud buzzing noise. Is there any way of getting around this problem ? Or will I simply need to get a different memory set?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Are you sure that the problem is the memory? Have you run memtest86? Make sure the voltage and timings are correct for your ram in bios. And when you run the tests remember you are testing the memory as well as the dimm slots.

After running memtest86+ for at least 6 passes, you can check if your board BIOS is up-to-date. If you get any errors, that is not good. Retest using one RAM stick, then the other in different slots.

EDIT: Does the problem remain if you put the old RAM back in?

Hi,

Thanks for the help ! I'm sorry I've been in hospital so only just got the replies. We found that the memtest on each and both sticks over a period of 4 hours showed no errors, although we may change the volatge to and from the sticks.

We believe however that the problem is cooling, as the cpu fan may have been pointing in the wrong direction meaning alot of hot air was culminating above the ram. Also after doing a standard gpu test yesterday where the max temp would go to 72 degrees, trying it today it went all the way to 98 degrees Celsius...

Thanks for any help !

98c!?!? That's near boiling lol. That wasn't cpuz was it? As that recons my core i5 is at like 112c at idle lol real temp gives it a more believable 37c lol

If your CPU is not now a paper weight after hitting 98C, you should pull the cooler and replace the thermal compound.
If you CPU cooler fan is blowing towards the motherboard, that is correct. If your cooler fans are perpendicular to it, then blow toward the rear of the case.
