Mouse and keyboard freezes on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit

For the past weeks I've been experiencing random mouse and keyboard freezes but the applications keep running normally. The only solution is to hard reset the computer.

During normal functioning I sometimes hear random beeps as if USB devices were connected and disconnected while I didn't physically connect or disconnect anything.

Could this be related to some MS update?

I can't find any relevant information on the Event Viewer related to this problem.

I already reinstalled the mouse drivers, checked the USB devices power settings on Device Manager but the problem persists. Any tips please?

Does your mouse and keyboard have batteries in them?
Mine does and every so often it acted like yours so I replaced the batteries.

They don't. They are USB powered.

is this a desktop or laptop? if desktop, are they connected to the front? if laptop, are they connected to a usb hub? if so, try connecting them directly to the usb ports on the motherboard in staid.

It's a desktop and the mouse and keyboard are connected directly to the back usb ports.

Also check the cables from the terminations and all along the wires. Squeeze the cable and if you can get the mouse or keyboard to act up then it's the cable. Also plug them into the upper usb 2.0 ports on the mobo.

Checked. Can't see any problems. I tried connecting a different mouse and I'll work with it for a while to see if I can reproduce the problem.

try running the suggested Microsoft fixit for speed and performance to see if it can locate the issue. otherwise you should continue with a clean start up to narrow things down and see if its a program installed on your system.

Mine are a little older but both are usb connected and still have batteries in keyboard and mouse.
