Mouse cursor stops moving after launching certain applications

Hi all,

This has been going on since yesterday and started just like that. I haven't made any changes to the system other than to install an application over a week ago (un-installing it makes no difference).

Basically, every time I launch these two applications:

- Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
- Microsoft Expression Web 4

(could be more too)

...the mouse cursor stops responding as soon as the splash screen appears. It's not just my wireless Logitech mouse that behaves this way, the built in touchpad also no longer responds! No movement and no clicking is detected. The strange thing is when I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and the screen changes to display the options (lock, switch user, change password, launch task manager etc), I am able to move the mouse. I.e. the mouse doesn't work only when the desktop or any open applications are in the foreground. If I lock my machine, at the logon screen, the mouse works too! The problem is fixed after a reboot but comes back whenever I launch these two applications. Both applications have also been reinstalled.

This can't be a hardware or driver issue as the mouse does work in some cases and everything on my laptop is 100% up to date in terms of updates and drivers (checked just now). I really don't want to rebuild Windows as I have thousands of settings which I will not be able to reproduce. Anyone?

Thanks

Hi,
Did you manage to find a fix for this cursor problem. I have exactly the same problem. So far my cursor crashes on
NVidia Geforce Experience
Gofree Shop Down-loader
Insight planner
Insight chart quilter.

I have the same behaviour in that if I use CTRL ALT DEL the mouse works but as soon as I return to windows the mouse is jammed. If i log off windows and then re login the mouse returns to normal.

I've tried rolling back my graphics driver but had no luck. I tried restoring to an earlier date but the restoration program kept getting errors.

Thanks

No. I spent one week troubleshooting. In the end I gave up and rebuilt the machine. I googled and googled but found nothing. I've been in IT support for over 10 years and this one totally stumped me. The previous Windows installation had been on my machine for 5 years.
