This is not software or firmware problem.
THIS IS HARDWARE PROBLEM!

I had the same problem with locking right button.
The solution is very simple >>> this guide helped my to fix it!!

Thanks! It fixed my MX Anywhere behavior problems (loss of selection during drag, can't select text at specific range) after a good 2 years service. Never expect it is such simple problem. I don't have a can of compress air with me. Instead, I just use a knife to lift up the the left mouse click pad then blow it with my mouth. It worked! I guess some accumulated dust inside was the problem.

For anyone has similar problem, you can first go to window control panel on mouse to switch left/right, then you should see the selection works fine if you use right click. Go ahead try the blow clean as suggested on your left click pad.

Just want to say my appreciation and share my experiences. My mouse is good now!

I just fixed this exact problem with my Performance Mouse MX (don't know if yours is a Logitech or not).

I used a can of compressor air dust remover and fired it under the front of the left mouse button. Problem now gone.

Holy crap, you sir, are a genius! After 2 months of scouring the internet for a solution, this actually worked lol. Thank you very much my friend!

Like many others, I have created this account to thank mistahsinclair. I didn't have any compressed air, so I just blew as hard as I could under the left-hand mouse button. Immediate success.

I faced a similar problem with the touchpad on a laptop. The left button would always be on or not work at all. The mouse could not be controlled and would randomly drag items and had a mind of its own. I tried all the software solutions to no avail. I took out the click switch board and cleaned the cable contacts. I cleaned the electrical click switches with contact cleaner spray. Then the touchpad worked for a while, and then went back to the old problem.

I tested the electrical click switch with a meter and found that was the problem. It was difficult to find original replacement parts. So I went to an electrical shop and bought a the smallest compatible electrical click switch I could find (alternatively I was thinking of removing a clicker from an old mouse). With a lot of fiddling I soldered the clicker to the board. It was much bigger than the original one, so I has to improvise to make the board fit. The job looks messy on the inside of the laptop, but outside looks just fine. Now the touchpad works great.

Kind regards
Chris

I created an account just to thank you for this!!!
I have been battling this issue for the past two days now. Reinstalled drivers, swap between bluetooth and cable, all to no avail. I have a Logitech MX Vertical and all I did was lift the left mouse button up and blow really hard underneath. Surprised it worked. :D

Thanks a lot.

Hi to all,

I noticed that there is no activity over here more than a year ago, but I don´t know where else to go. I have being reading sevenforums solutions to problems for years, but never registered. So I registered yesterday and I am new on a way.

I´m experiencing similar problem, that is, while dragging suddenly I will have a release and also sometimes double click when clicking only once.
It is happening with 4 different mouses: My laptop mousepad, my Shark SK-2242 mouse, a Sony Bluetooth wireless mouse and an old HP mouse.

All have being blown with air to dust off. I have deleted or uninstall all mouse drivers and restarted computer.
I anyway used compressed air to dust off all mouses.
Not touching mousepad while using the external mouse.
I have hit ESC button while holding down the left mouse button.
I have run sfc /scannow.
This problem started after a windows update.
Please, someone, what else can I try???
