walk/run controls not working on old Star Wars game?

So basically my brother has a game that he is unable to play on his computer. I decided to try to install it on my netbook, because looking at the back of it my computer meets the specifications. it installs ok, even though it thinks i have OpenGL version 1.1 instead of 1.4 (I have 2.0), however, it does not control well. when i first started playng it all the controls worked fine, but after a while the navigation controls (wasd in my case) start to behave oddly with sometimes the character acting as if the button is sticking, then being completely unresponsive. yet, all other keys work because i can pan the camera and access the menus. help?
Star Wars Knights of the old Republic II: the sith lords.
mainly because he is looking for a laptop under $400 and the only things are netbooks, which may not be powerful enough.

EDIT> Looks like there's a relatively recent driver out for your Atom's GMA 500: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Internet+Devices&ProductLine=Mobile+Internet+Devices&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Atom%E2%84%A2+processor+for+Mobile+Internet+Devices&OSVersion=Windows+Vista*
(Says it's for Vista but it will work in Windows 7)

Didn't work, however the 7 drivers are newer I believe.

Downloaded OpenGL Extension Viewer (a reall great diag app btw)
it says that I have OpenGL 1.1 still, and DirectX 9.

Hmm... I'm not sure why the game thinks you have OpenGL 1.1, because the GMA 500 definitely supports 2.0. The only other thing I can think of is the Vista/7 KotOR fix floating around on the web. It's been used for people who can't run the game at all, which doesn't seem to be your case, but it might be worth reading up on anyway. Let me know what happens.

Yeah I've been checking around and i conclude the only thing that could be causing this is: the GMA500 has ****ty drivers.

Intel Poulsbo (GMA500) Dissatisfaction Group thread [Facebook]

Microsoft set intel/nvidia/ati/etc up with the additional task of making an "icd" driver kit that adds opengl support to their cards for windows. I've looked around and ours doesn't have one. Here is the technical breakdown of the product in our chipsets.
Intel SCH US15W(contains
Gma 500(which contains
powervr SGX535 3d core plus VXD370 hd decoder
and a generic unspecified VESA chip for 2d/code/decode and general functions

The onboard included imagination technologies firmware isn't used by the drivers at all, instead:
The drivers were worked on in early '09 by tungsten graphics but they quit.
When the new Moorestown chipset hits the streets the current team of intel engineers is supposed to have a brand new driver based on gallium 3d ready. This is supposed to be first quarter '10.

Our chipset is a foray by intel into new territories. Old technology like serial ports were removed from our chipset. It's just the drivers that are lacking , we really have a quite powerful and scalable evolved system at our disposal. If you used the heavy 6cell batteries from standard laptops we'd also have massive battery life. The only thing wrong with this chipset is that it's still parallel ata(not serial ata).

So I've been reading up on your issue, and it seems that integrated graphics chipsets cause nothing but problems in KotOR 2: LucasArts.com | Support

Keep your fingers crossed that the next driver update fixes it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't :/
