i have an avi video that i want to trim. but when i use movie maker and trim, i don't see an option to simply re-save it as an avi video. it seems i have to convert it to mp4 or wmv.
From what I have been reading, ever since Windows Movie Maker (WMM) upgraded to the latest and greatest, the capability to save as an .avi file has been removed and unless you can find an original version of WMM it can not be done anymore and you have to save as a .wmv, then use a video converter to save as .avi .
Here is a dated (2010) YT video. At 0:45 it shows how to select a different file format (.avi):
If you would like to try the older version it is still available, see the link in this thread: How to get back the old Movie maker in Windows 7 There are even some comments from one of our esteemed members whs at posts #3, and #6.
EDIT:
Jim, at that tutorial you will also need the Vista files. whs posted a link to his at filefactory here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...maker-6-0-install-windows-7-a.html#post447502 You have to jump through some hoops to start the free download, but once started I was able to grab the 71.0MB file in five minutes on my fios I have them in case I need them.
It's a little complicated, I prefer to use some go direct program like leawo video converter. Though not free, but you know it's worthying, so we have to pay. you can easy access to trim, rotate, and crop videos. some other features, you may figure out by yourself if you are interested.
