Is it possible to move the user's folder and the programmes folder to another drive?

When I was using mac workstations, there is an app called location manager within OS X which allows you to move the location of a system specifc volume such as Applications or Users or such like to another volume, and the location manager changes all the necessary information like the entries in the reg and the like.

When you installed a programme it instantly pointed itself to the new location as all it saw was that the 'applications' folder was sitting on this volume.

IS there anything like this in windows 7 ?

You can certainly move the folders at the c:\users\<account>\sub-folder level. Ive moved all those to another drive. If you choose one (say favorites) and right click and select properties, you'l see a location tab where you can move the folder to a new location.

As for program files folder, you can use regedit and search for "programfilesdir" but use that with caution.

thanks Swarfega, I think i'll stay away from the progammes folder for now!

I had a vision of just having 7 and the pagefile on one disc, the programmes on another and users on their own separate disc.

So let me repeat it so I've understood this correctly:

I can effectively transport all the contents of my user folder to another drive but I cannot move the folder itself from the C:/ directory.

So I will either need to have then floating free on the drive in question or create a new 'saverio' folder.

hopefully i've understood this correctly :geek: !
