Mozilla confirms critical Firefox bug

Mozilla yesterday confirmed a critical vulnerability in the newest version of Firefox, and said it would plug the hole by the end of the month.

"The vulnerability was determined to be critical and could result in remote code execution by an attacker," Mozilla acknowledged in a post to its security blog late Thursday. "The vulnerability has been patched by developers and we are currently undergoing quality assurance testing for the fix."

Firefox 3.6, which Mozilla launched in January, is affected, Mozilla said, adding that it would be patched in version 3.6.2, currently slated to ship on March 30.

A comment in that article has a point. Critics call IE vulnerabilities as "Vulnerabilities" or "Critical Flaws". For Firefox: "bug".

*shrug* it had to happen eventually, as much as i love FF its not perfect, and with all the focus on IE recently it was only a matter of time before a new one emerged for FF, slightly worrying their not patching it until the 30th though... you would have thought that they would roll it out ASAP

*shrug* it had to happen eventually, as much as i love FF its not perfect, and with all the focus on IE recently it was only a matter of time before a new one emerged for FF, slightly worrying their not patching it until the 30th though... you would have thought that they would roll it out ASAP

Agreed, huge fan of FF here but puzzled as to why the delay. Thank goodness for NoScript

I was a die hard FF user until 3.6. It seems to me that Mozilla is going backwards on FF. I tried Google Chrome dev channel and have not looked back. It runs, launches and loads pages faster and with extensions it is much better than FF. I can't wait until the extensions are being developed more and perfected. This browser has a lot of potential. I know I might get a lot of grief for this by the FF fans, but I was one until 3.6. It had a lot of flaws and used loads and loads of memory on my system. I thought I would try Chrome until they fixed these flaws in FF, but I have not turned back. I downloaded FF 3.7 Alpha(Minefield) and use for a day or two then went back to Chrome and the speed is amazing. Also the viewable area on Chrome is amazing. Try it out and I promise you will like it. Give it a shot. They have an Adblock plus extension for Chrome now and Google is working on closing the gap for a NoScript extension because it is something they really want.

High praise indeed and I really should test out Chrome actually - the large viewable area is also a commendable feature.

I know Chrome is really fast but for some reason my ALPS touchpad back and forward buttons do not work with it. I do not know why but that is what is preventing me from using it.
