Solved MS Fixit ?

I've seen reference to it a few times but am too chicken to click. Is it some sort of 'auto-fix'? Is it something I really should check out, especially where I'm not PC literate & possibly that any of my concerns about my PC may be minor?

Well, it looked interesting & I saw something that reminded me of one of my little events viewer worries so clicked on it but was quite surprised by the warning about 'these type files may be harmful,etc.'. Seems kinda weird that MS doesn't trust their own help? Surely I'm reading that wrong? Anyway . . . I did as usual & saved to desktop where I always do to then run MBAM on it.

Will check it out when I'm done at forum.

@grits: I think I posted this before, but I'll say it here just in case someone else strolls by.

First, the warning about 'these type files may be harmful,etc.' is a generic statement for some types of files (executable, installation, registry, etc). It's a fair warning, but does not indicate that the file is in fact harmful.

Microsoft creates the Mr. Fixits to help people solve problems people discover in their products. They used to only publish the technical fix (look at the "let me fix it myself" section of the Mr. Fixit for an example). The average user said.... "The heck with that! I can't begin to figure out what they're trying to tell me. Why don't they automate this for me and make it easy?" And that's how Mr. Fixit came about. That, and the number of support calls when people missed a step or two - it was in Microsoft's best interest to do it for you.

If you use IE when you visit a MS knowledge base (KB) article with a Mr. Fixit, you can just click on the fixit button and select run. Other browsers - you'll probably have to download and then run it.

The important thing is that Mr. Fixit is an automated Microsoft solution (make sure it is a Microsoft site) and can be trusted. They don't want MORE support calls,

As you gain experience and confidence, you'll probably search Microsoft for the error code or error message and the search results will point you to a knowledge base (KB) article with a Mr. Fixit. You can run that solution with confidence.

The thing is, you don't have to look for a fix anywhere unless your machine is experiencing problems. You can find lots of Mr. Fixits - it doesn't mean you need any or all of them. If your machine is running ok, use it for what you bought it for - writing eMail, organizing and tracking finances, etc.
