MS pulls & recommends uninstalling KB 2823324?

Tech giant Microsoft has recommended that an update released in the latest Patch Tuesday be removed, after users reported incidents of the "blue screen of death" after installation.
Microsoft released two critical security updates and others rated as "important" for Windows and Internet Explorer as part of its latest round of Patch Tuesday updates.
However, a number of Windows 7 users have reported issues with security update 2823324, which is part of security bulletin MS13-036.

Everything is working fine on all 3 of my rigs (Win7/64 X 2 and Win7/32 X 1) with 2823324 installed.

Interesting. I uninstalled it and it was immediately re-offered so they haven't made a very good job of it. I'll just hide it.

I have it installed on 2 machines, one has had zero problems. The other one's Norton got snafu-ed though but "fixed itself".

Two days ago I had the ¿¿¿great??? idea of downloading updates for Windows, and yesterday I had 2 crashes (no BSOD however). May that be a coincidence? I've just uninstalled it now, maybe it helps.
But yet another example of how Windows updates gives more problems than it solves.

I still don't know what programs this KB might effect or whether every one is recommended to remove it.
I'm having all kinds of goofy problems with FF20 and MAM. I'M wondering if this KB can be causing them.

If you scroll down in that MS article, you'll see that certain Kaspersky enterprise products are mentioned.
I don't know if there are others.
I run KIS2013 (consumer version) on all 3 Win7 rigs and had no problems, but KL has been looking into it: Compatibility of KIS2013 MP1 and Windows Update - Kaspersky Lab Forum

Yes, it does seem that MS is recommending that everyone uninstall it (see the linked MS article).

I'm having all kinds of goofy problems with FF20 and MAM. I'M wondering if this KB can be causing them.

What is MAM?
If you mean Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), there are no known issues of which I am aware (just a frequent poster at MBAM forum and active lurker at Mozillazine forum).

Since you have a few thousand more posts here than I do, I might be asking you the same question?

But that's why I've posted -- waiting to hear from the local gurus, such as NoelDP, Tom982, Brink and the other REALLY smart folks.

It seems that some folks can uninstall it OK, while others are being re-offered it again as soon as they do so (unless they hide it).

So, waiting for expert input before I uninstall....

Uninstall the update, Microsoft will reissue the update of ntfs.sys anyway, and this update will be superseded if it remains installed - and you will end up with an extra update you don't need.

I think it has effectively been pulled 2 and a half hours ago. If you still see it, re-check. If you see it after that, you might have to erase the contents of the Software Distribution folder.

Just to add, I uninstalled it, I don't see it anymore, and I haven't hidden it.

When they re-issue it - will it be under the same KB number?
If so, will you get it if you have hidden that KB?

I suspect that it takes a while for the order to pull the KB to propagate to all of the regional servers being uses to provide Windows Updates. I'm not seeing it offered after uninstalling it from a VM.

A hidden KB will not reapply. If they reissue I hope it will be a new KB.

My backup computer is down at this time. If it was working I would do a test using it. I don't care to do testing with only my main computer working at this time. So I ask questions.
Removing the KB probably would not hurt anything but I'm a bit cautious under my circumstances at this time.

I've always seen it as MBAM (MalwareBytes Anti-Malware). Search for for MBAM will get numerous hits for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I just did a search for MAM and got squat for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

While I hadn't had a problem yet, I removed the KB anyway and hid it. So far, no problems.

What really bites my backside (besides tall dogs) is I had my computer set to only download updates and waitn for me to manually install them sincen I like to wait a few days to make sure something like this doesn't happen. For some weird reason, that got changed to download and install, just in time for the rogue update (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble).

Well, without wishing to drift off-topic, I am just a home user, but the folks at Malwarebytes actually do use "MBAM" for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (and "MBAR" for Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit, and "MBSB" for Malwarebytes Secure Backup). But no matter....

AFAIK, I don't think any issues you're having with Fx and/or MBAM relate to the MS patch in question, although, aside from certain Kaspersky products, the MS article didn't mention anything else specifically.

I believe Microsoft has removed it from the update-push to look into it further. What a hassle.

Several people are reporting issues with Malwarebytes PRO on the Malwarebytes forum.
If you're using the real-time protection, try turning off Malicious Website Blocking on startup.

Hi:

I'm the OP in this topic.
I'm also a >7000+ member over at the MBAM forum.

FWIW The issues with MBAM PRO have NOTHING to do with MS KB 2823324.

There have been recent reports of high CPU usage (especially among XP users with low-end hardware) and audio latency (on certain hardware platforms).
However, many of the users reporting issues are also experiencing software conflicts, malware damage, and other issues.
The MBAM staff and developers are well aware of all issues and are working to correct them.
But they are not related to Patch Tuesday updates.
(FWIW they have nothing to do with the recent program update, but rather, with the way the website blocking module works on certain systems.)

So, I am just a home user (and not affiliated with MBAM in any way).
I am just reporting this with the respectful and humble request that we stay "on topic", please, regarding MS KB 2823324 and not mix "apples and oranges"????
