Hope i got the right section.
1. Can I control where on the desktop the Recorder is placed? It open on top left now.

2. Can I set a customized save location? (i.e. C://music/sound recordings)
Thanks.

Well, it looks like an executable and I'm not sure what DLLs it's using if at all without watching its activity. If I can disassemble the .EXE or it's DLLs that it uses perhaps it would be possible to change its default behavior.

Basically the answer is no to the first question without some hacking around. To answer your second question, it opens a file save location, but to change it to a default location would also involve some hacking around.

You might want to check out a pretty decent program called Wavepad. I've been using it for years and use it to create ring and notification tones for my phone. Other people use Audacity which is free.

Yes, I've tried WinSize2 and others. It may be me, but none have worked satisfactorily. I'll try again. And so there's no way to set a customized default save location for a particular program?

I may have solution to the question(s).
1. Open the SoundRecorder, and position the recorder window where you'd prefer. Hold down the CTRL key and click Close Window button.

Then whenever you next launch the program, the application should launch from the new location.

2. I do this all the time with various applications, and I am happy to share my tip. It is not an exact solution, however it is a very good work around. This is what you do:

In the default Save Folder, create a shortcut to the folder of your choice (the one you want to be the new default.) Then create a recording. When the Save dialog pops-up, click on the newly created shortcut, and the Window will update to your chosen location, so you can immediately save at this new location.

iko22 - thanks, but no go on either. I have 2 mp4 attachments but system says invalid. On quest 1 - I held down the control key = no go. Sound Recorder appears in nearby position as b4. Quest 2 - I'm not sure where a default save window is, let alone creating a shortcut. So I used Explorer and addressed it to folder location, but when record/save it still went to Documents = no go.

Yeah, just tried it now and for the sound recorder the control key trick doesn't work. I read at StackExchange that someone mentioned trying the shift key instead, and I tried that to no available either. I assume it'll work just fine for other windows though. Go figure.

About the shortcut trick for the default documents folder. Go to the folder location on your computer to where you'd like to save recorded files and right click that folder and select Copy. Now go to the documents folder where the sound recorder defaults to which would be your computer profile name | My Documents and in that folder right click and select the option 'paste as shortcut.' Now every time the sound recorder save location pops up for the documents folder you can just navigate to that shortcut folder in there and anything placed in there will default to the intended save location you wanted.

Make sense?

Latter on I may give WinSize2 a try and see if I can't get it to work with the sound recorder and if it works will post my findings. I'm just a little leary about using it since I have something installed called DisplayFusion which does in a way interface with Explorer so that I can simply set two different wallpapers per monitor. In Windows 7 you can't do this without the program DisplayFusion or something equivalent. In Windows 10 you can do this out of the box. And if interested, DisplayFusion is free for this very purpose.

1. Sorry to hear - I'm on Windows 10 at the moment, so I am unable to try it out as per the question. It works on Windows 10 Voice Recorder app; not that is much good, if you don't have the other OS.

2. Apologies for the confusion. Lets try again:
The "Save Folder" I am referring to is in User\Documents, sometimes shows as user\libraries\documents. It is the location where SoundRecorder saves it's recordings.

A. To create a new shortcut pointing to your customised location.
Create a new shortcut in User\Documents then browse to and point it to your customised folder, "C:/music/sound recordings". That will setup a custom shortcut to your desired (or preferred) folder.

This is the same as OPTION FOUR from this Seven Forum's tutorial :ar: Shortcut - Create for a File, Folder, Drive, or Program in Windows .

If you have any problems setting up a suitable shortcut, post again on this thread.

B. Using the shortcut to arrive at the customised folder
Once, you have a shortcut setup as outlined, then you can use the shortcut to your advantage when you go to save a SoundRecording.
For example:
1. create sound recording.
2. Stop the Sound Recording, and the Save Window automatically opens at default location.
3. Instead of saving at the default location, click on the visible shortcut that you just created, and the Save Window will update/refresh at the new customised location.
4. Save your SoundRecording at the new customised location.

Sort of a work-around, but it works. Thank you. You all have cut down on frustration with MS.
