MS Word 2007 Freezing on Opening

Hi all,

I am running MS Office 2007 (student edition)

When opening a word document it has started freezing on the word splash screen. I then get the error "There was a problem sending the command to the programme"

The only way to get rid of the splash screen is through task manager and kill the process.

I have unistalled office and re-installed then updated with SP1 and 2 for it.

I am still getting the same error. All other office applications are working fine.

It is doing this for both .doc & .docx formats.

Any ideas

Update:

tried launching in safe mode....no dice..same as above.
tried launching from start > run > winword.exe /a....same issue as original problem
Have run ccleaner (thought may be registry issues due to previous uninstall)...6 entries none relevant to Office.

Probably won't help, but worth a try:

Run sfc /scannow from a command prompt.

That may correct some missing or damaged system files.

Have you considered System Restore to a time prior to when this all started?

Ran scan now - No integrity problems.

I'll try a restore.

Try to reinstall MS office package. Sometime some files may corrupted or deleted.

Already did an un-install, ran CCleaner then did a re-install, didn't fix the issue.

System restore has not fixed the issue.

Any other ideas??

My only further ideas are to Google that exact error message and to go to Microsoft's own Word-related forums.

Tried everything I can find, from registry edits to renaming old template files.....the answer...install Libre Office.

Ran (Think it's 5 diagnostics), no issues found.

But have made a little progress. Have changed the launch properties for word to 'Run As administrator' which now means I get the UAC control up, and I can open files from within word.

What I still can't do is just double click and open a file. It still freezes on the splash screen.

Have you considered malware may be the problem?

A virus check in safe mode won't hurt, for which Malwarebytes is highly recommended.
