MSE + what else

i have MSE and planing to download avg since i dont want to renew my macAfee subscription....is that good enough people????

No, without sandboxie or returnil, or something along those lines your just rolling the dice. Sooner or later you will be infected if relying on good judgement and a good a/v.

I'll probably be running with MSE + Malwarebytes and no site advisor.

Thats a good plan - once my NIS2011 runs out, I'll go the same route with MSE.

Update

An update on my experience since others may use this thread in their decision making.
I made the switch to MSE and my preliminary findings are:

1) MSE full scan is extremley slow. I doubt that I will be using it.
more importantly
2) MSE may jeopardize your imaging (& file/folder backups).

I understood Microsoft recommended their firewall, MSE and one of the free virus scanners like AVG as being enough protection.
Your thoughts?

Hi,

Depending on whom you speak to, AVG has been perceived as having gone through a "bad patch" recently. In my opinion, Malwarebytes is a better option for a second scanner.

Apart from that, MSE and Windows Firewall are as good a choice as any for system preotection. The most important ingredient, however, is sensible browsing and downloading.

Tried MSE dumped it (interference with imaging & backups, incredibly slow scan)
Paid a little & bought NIS2011 + still using Malwarebytes.

Edit: with reference to post#26. MSE is hardly a good choice if it terminates an imaging process when it detects a piece of malware. Deal with the malware and proceed with the image.

Commonsense is the most powerful security you can have in my experience. MBAM has never once let me down and as long as you are diligent in scanning new items from less than trustworthy sources it should really be all you need in addition to the basic win7 security suite.
