Multi-touch and gestures using Scrybe

This post could qualify for several different categories so I'll just put it here in General Discussion.

I have downloaded and installed Synaptics Scrybe driver and software and installed it on my Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6848 laptop purchased in July, 2008. It enabled multi-touch and gestures and works rather well with a few minor annoyances.

Among the multi-touch features that now work (in Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit) are:

Two-finger scroll. Similar to MacBook scrolling but not quite as smooth. Works both vertically and horizontally.

Tap zones. Each corner of the touchpad can trigger a specific action. For example, you can set browser forward and back to a corner each, and right-click to another corner. There is a list of actions in the driver setup.

Chiral scrolling. Clockwise circles will scroll down, counter-clockwise scrolls up.

Momentum. A single-finger flick will shoot the cursor across the screen, a less enthusiastic flick will cause the cursor to travel a short distance after removing your finger from the pad.

Those features (and others) are enabled by the driver alone. The Scrybe software adds gestures. A three-finger tap brings up the Scrybe pad, drawing certain figures will perform a pre-determined action. Among those available are:

Draw a G on the pad to open your browser to Google's homepage.

Draw an X to close an application.

Draw an @ symbol to open your email.

And the list goes on.

A two-finger scroll in the browser works fairly well although it sometimes wants to select (highlight) portions of the page when I remove my fingers. Also, it's not as smooth as a MacBook and tends to "lock" (keep scrolling) until I touch the pad again.


The default sensitivity was too sensitive, just having my fingers near the pad would sometimes activate something that I didn't want. I think that I now have a good balance between "ghost" activation and having to press really hard.

It's supposed to work with most Synaptic Touchpads version 5.2 and later.

Anyhow, I didn't see anything on the forums about it and wanted to give y'all a heads up.

I'm wondering about this. I have just installed the gesture's suite and everything is cool except the 3-finger stuff. I'm wondering if my touchpad only supports 2 fingers, but I can't find out how to determine this. It says I have touchpad v7.2. Any ideas on how to determine the number of fingers I can use? Thanks!

I just tried twofingerscroll and there is a 3-finger tap feature for the Synaptics touchpads. It works, so I can do the 3-finger stuff. My touchpad is too small, though, for it to be consistent, but nonetheless, I have that functionality.
