Common, I can almost guarantee that if any suggestions are given, my System Specs wouldn't be required. Why is everyone hung up on System Spec, most of the users on this board offer, so I'm one of the few that don't, why get yourself all tied in a knot or not help over that, it really doesn't make sense, even if you think it does.

I can guarantee you that a valid answer to your question will require more info than "Windows8"

Think about what you are asking, and you give zero information about your hardware..."tied in knots about system specs", yeah we like system specs so we can give correct or useful answers.

What answer are you looking for? You can't even buy shoes without knowing what size or color, etc...It's a two way street.

Quit being so stubborn about your system specs, you ask a question in the hardware and devices forum yet no one knows what hardware you have, do you see the problem there?

Yeah, but you have issues witn Windows 8, not windows 7, so eightforums is the best place to find answers.

Specs are needed to know what we are working with, we don't do it because we are nosy nor because we want to violate your privacy. The software in the tutorial I linked just makes a list of hardware composing your computer, as each computer is deifferent inside. Ask a mechanic to fix a car over the phone, without telling him what car he is working on, and listen to the answer, he won't be as polite as we are here.

This behaviour makes me think you have something to hide though.
Come on, the worst that can happen is that you get perma-banned.

Anyway, those in the list are unrecognized devices, go to the device manufacturer's site and download and install all the drivers they offer for Win8. If they don't try installing drivers for Win7 in compatiblity mode.

You do not list your motherboard model (only the chipset) so I can't look to see what those other drivers could be. But you can look just as easily.

But most often you will find that many base system devices will disappear when the proper drivers are installed because they are simply multiple instances of the same component that the system does not know what to do with.

That is the diagnostics I came to as well. It's what drivers do these devices need, I can't figure out, and I've checked and checked hrm.

And what drivers, including version numbers, have you installed so far?

And, is this a newer installation of Windows? Or has it been installed and running well for a while and you just noticed these devices?

nVidia 680. This Windows has been installed and running well for a while, and I just noticed these devices.

nVidia 680 and nVidia 775 are the chipsets used on the motherboard. But that is not the motherboard model number.

The reason this is important is because motherboard manufacturers use the base chipsets to start out with their designs but then add features and functionality and modify the chipset drivers to accomodate them. So if you install a generic chipset driver you will at best lose functionality of some of the advanced features or you will lose all functionality at worst.

So if you knew the brand and model of motherboard you could go to their website and download and install the chipset drivers that are specifically made for that model and version number of motherboard.

You say your system is custom built. Did you build it?

One good way to find the model # of motherboard (if you don't have the box) is CPU-Z. Install that and run it and on the Mainboard tab it will normally list the brand and model #.

Also our own forum's software you find at the tutorials we linked above (and here) can identify the motherboard.

Another way to find out the motherboard name is my looking at the board itself, as the name is printed usually close to the CE and FCC symbols and has the chipset name into it (like say GAZ77X-UP5TH is a Gigabyte mobo with Z77 intel chipset)

I know what a Chipset is, I just forgot to include it (Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG, nVidia 680i SLI) I built the PC, I've built many PC's, FYI.

The closest match for that is Nvidia nForce 680i SLI. Is it the board you have? I think it is, but it's always better to check.

From their support page I entered that product and they have drivers for Windows 7 but not for win 8, and since you have 8 GB of ram these ones are for Win 7 64 bit.
So, download the linked multi-driver pack and install it (as the drivers should work fine in win 8 too), and look if those "base system devices" disappear.

I have one beef with flashing my BIOS. I personally never found it helped anything except cause my system not to boot, it's one of those things that is not a guarantee to solve, unlike, maybe a video driver or what have you. Is there any other way to eliminate all those "base system devices" ?

Yes. Install the correct chipset driver (and all other motherboard device drivers),

downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's website,

listed for your exact motherboard model number,

and the Operating system you are running (64 or 32 bit).

If there are no W7 drivers you can use Vista drivers installed in Compatibility Mode.

I'm not asking you to.
The thing I linked in that post is a pack of drivers (NVIDIA loves to pack everything in a single installer, most others divide the drivers by device, but it's the same as you need everything anyway). Drivers are programs that tell Win7 how to interact with hardware (you have some for the GPU but there are some for the hardware soldered on the board as well), and have nothing to do with flashing BIOS.

This is the most likely solution to your problem. Download and install the driver pack. If you encounter issues try following the tutorial about installing them in compatibility mode I linked above.
