Multiple BSODs after installing Windows 7 x64 onto new SSD

So I built my computer about 5 years ago and it ran pretty solidly with Windows XP and then Windows 7 Professional x32 until recently.

I bought a SSD and installed Windows 7 x64 on it, whilst keeping the original Windows 7 Professional x32 on a HDD.

After a short while I began to get BSODs of different varieties and when I have tried to repair startup or system restore, nothing has worked.

I now get a screen option of whether to boot 32bit or 64bit windows on startup but can only get 64bit to load and be stable in safe mode.

I have uploaded the SF diagnostic tool zip file to:

http://www.filedropper.com/lukevega3

I would appreciate any help in solving these issues!

Luke

Hi Golden,

Apologies for this.

I was under the impression the file was too large to upload (1.1MB).
I will upload it when I get home.

Best regards,

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause of BSOD's.

1. Uninstall Daemon Tools.
2. Download the either the 32 or 64 bit SPTD standalone installer depending on your system and follow these steps:
  • Double click the executable to open it
  • Click the button shown below

picture.php

If the button it is grayed out, as shown in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can just close the window.

I downloaded and ran the executable as advised, but could not see an image to compare what I got so wasn't 100% sure but I have attached a screenshot of the program.

I have Daemon Tools on my 32bit version of Windows 7 but I haven't been able to load Windows 7 32 bit for some time. I will try and see if I can and then remove it from there.

Luke

Another BSOD

So after uninstalling SPTD from the 32 bit windows and then going back to 64bit I thought everything was going hunky-dory but then I got another blue screen.

Any advice on what to try next?

Luke

I'm confused.......do you only have one installation of Windows, or two?

If you have Windows x64, then use the 64 bit SPTD.

I have both the 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows 7 installed. The problems started when I installed 64bit onto a new SSD and added it to my existing set-up.

Right, I'm confused. Is your existing problem with the 64 bit, or the 32 bit installation?

Stick with the 64 bit installation only.

Re-run the SPTD steps, but be sure to use the 64 bit of SPTD.

OK. WinDBG reports a different error than earlier, but unfortunately its inconclusive at this stage. We can try a few things. Firstly, lets check that memory is behaving OK.

Run a minimum of 8 passes, preferably overnight to get a few more passes in, or until errors occur using MemTest86+.

Use this tutorial to help you use MemTest86+:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Report back on the results and we will take it from there.

I got some errors on the 7th test (I think) but when I took out one stick of RAM and ran it again, memtest seemed to crash.

Any idea how to stop that from happening? I used the USB version and some forums mentioned disabling USB legacy in the BIOS but that just stopped the USB memory stick from being recognised.
