Multiple errors after a new repair install

I did the repair install, that went fine. I had hope that once I got all of the updates downloaded I'd be all set and I could create an new system image. I looked at the event viewer and to my horror it's full of errors again.
I ran the sfc, it reported no problems. Here are the CBS logs. Hope they tell you something. I'd like to get this thing fixed so I can focus on stuff I'm supposed to be doing.
Appreciate any kind of help I can get.

First, the good news

There are no significant errors in either the CBS log, SFC results, or CheckSUR logs

The bad news is that we're going to have to track down the errors as we find them.

Let's have a look at your event logs...

Please open Event Viewer
In the left pane, navigate to the Windows Logs
right-click on Applications and select 'Save all events as...' save as Apps.evtx
repeat for the System logs - save as Sys.evtx
Compress both files, and attach to your reply.

Glad for some good news. Before you get done with me I might actually know what I'm doing, not likely but who knows.:shock:
Here are the Logs. Again Thank you, you are a life saver. I assume I was supposed to click on putting them in English? The other choice was do nothing.

There appear to be only two errors in the System log os any significance now.

1. Task Scheduler service failed to load tasks at service startup. Additional Data: Error Value: 2147942402.
This is a File not Found error - and probably relates to a specific task. It could be the result of permissions problems or an actual missing file.

2.The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: Null
This is a bit of an odd one - and doesn't give us much in the way of clues.


Let's look in Device Manager and see if that gives us any help

Open Device Manager, and click on View in the menu bar - select "Show hidden devices"
Does anything appear with either a red cross overlay, or a yellow triangle overlay on their icon?
If so, what? Double-click on the entry to bring up details and post them.

I wanted to try a couple of things before I sent you the files. I assumed you might tell me to click the start (on The NULL with the warning triangle) and see what happened, so I wanted to include that shot too.
I thought the problem might also be that I had yet to reinstall my camera and printers, so I did that too. Plug and play recognized 1 printer and the camera. It fails to see the other printer, figures, it's the one I use most.I didn't reinstall that stuff because I thought the less drag on the system the better.

I don't know what that "Away mode" thing is but I put a shot of that too. I went down through everything else to be sure they all had the newest drivers. All did. Isn't there supposed to be a spot that included printers in the device manager? If so I don't see one.
I zipped the file cause there are 5 screen shots and they would take a bunch of post space. Hope that was ok to do?

Must admit, 'Away Mode' is a new one on me, too!

As for the 'Null' device - simply find it in device Manager and delete/uninstall it - reboot and see if Windows installs anything to replace it ( or puts it back again). It may just be a placeholder left over from the repair install.

Reboot again a couple of times, and post back with new event logs, and we'll see what's changed.

Uninstalled the NULL file, rebooted a couple times and it didn't put it back so must be it doesn't need it.
The event viewer still shows a whole bunch of errors and warning though.
Interesting article on the away mode. I don't have media center installed cause I own a TV I don't even watch that much. People think I'm nuts to have cable internet but not cable TV.

It's still attempting to load a 'Null' driver/service, for some reason.

Let's see if we can find the cause.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Null
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_NULL
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\NULL
REG QUERY HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\NULL

(note - in theory some should produce errors as responses!)

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I think we've found the problem



I've uploaded a file - tcnaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Save it to the default location
This should create a file nullenum.reg

right-click on the file, and select Merge
Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.
Close all windows, and reboot.

Then check the Device Manager and see if Null has re-appeared (it should - but this time without the yellow triangle)

If it has, reboot again and then post the new Event Logs.

Should I reset that DNS back to TCP/IP v6?
