Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing (MSN Only)

Hello,

I am in need of some assistance with my IE 10 browser, but the problem only happens while using the default MSN homepage.

After closing the web browser a number of times while on MSN, multiple browsers will suddenly reopen. I have noticed that when the browsers reopen, the url is a little different from the original. Here is an example of what some of the urls might look like below.

MSN.com

But when I change my default homepage to another search engine, such as google, yahoo, or bing, this problem does not occur. It only happens on the msn website.

Just today, I have discovered what is causing the browser to do this and it is the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program that is already pre-installed on my laptop. When disabled, the problem no longer occurs. However; when it is enabled, the problem will reoccur after a certain amount of times opening and closing the browser.

Here is a screenshot of the application disabled below.

FileDownloadHandler.ashx

But, here are two screenshots of all the applications that are enable on startup.

FileDownloadHandler.ashx

FileDownloadHandler.ashx

Either way, I am unsure of which direction I should take to solve this matter completely. Please help me.

Thank you for your assistance.

Multiple IE 10 Browsers Reopen After Closing Default Homepage (MSN - Microsoft Community

Quote from the other thread,
I followed the instructions within the clean boot about background applications and it worked. I discovered that the background TrueSuiteService application from HP in the services tab was what was causing the problem. After disabling it, I no longer had multiple browsers opening up. However, it still boggles my mind that how come it would be this application causing this issue? Also I notice that all the HP products are labeled "Hewlett-Packard Company" in the manufacturer status however; the disabled application is only labeled "HP" as the manufacturer? Could this possibly be a hidden virus on my computer? If so, how do I remove it? end of Quote

Hello SaraBrown93, and welcome to the SevenForums,

Hmm, I noticed the same as A Guy. Do you have any toolbars such as Ask.com or SweetIM installed? If so, you will want to remove them as they are considered adware.

Altho I don't suspect malware, it's better to be safe then sorry:)
Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

 1. Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
 2. Click Start
 3. When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
 4. Click Start
 5. Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
 6. Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
 7. Once the scan is completed, you may close the window
 8. Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
 9. Copy and paste that log in your next reply between

tags.
Do you actually use TrueSuiteService, or for that sake, any of the preinstalled programs?
If not, it would be best to remove them. You could do that by following this tutorial.

If you do use them, it would be best to uncheck them in the Startup tab of msconfig, and simply start them manual every time you need them.
To do that please follow this;

 1. Click on the :orb:.
 2. In the Search programs and files bar, type "msconfig" and click on the first entry.
 3. Accept the UAC prompt and let msconfig load.
 4. Click on the Startup tab.
 5. Here, remove the check mark before all the system bloatware applications. This will stop them from loading at startup, and as an added bonus, it will also make your boot time slightly faster.
 6. When done, click on Apply and OK.
 7. Make sure that all open programs are closed, and click on Restart now in the pop up that msconfig will give you.
I also see that there are programs such as ITunes, Apple Puch and Adobe Reader checked in the startup tab. There is no need for that. You can also uncheck them, as it will make your boot time faster.

Another question, have you ever performed a clean reinstall of Windows?
The reason I ask this is because pre installed Windows is always full of unneeded programs, called bloatware, that only slow your laptop down and basically stop you from experiencing Windows at it's full potential. If you are interested in this, you can look at this tutorial.

Good luck and keep us posted,
Nommy

derekimo came up with this link which might explain why it's irritating ie10,
Mostly because they need to update the utility so it's not part of a Virus it's just junkware,

Thanks Derekimo :)

Hello again,

To answer your questions, I do not have no toolbars installed except for the bing bar that was pre-installed in IE. But as of right now, the toolbar is disabled. Also, no threats were detected during the scan. Here is the log that you have requested:

ESETSmartInstaller@High as CAB hook log:
OnlineScanner64.ocx - registred OK
OnlineScanner.ocx - registred OK

As for using the TrueSuiteService, this is only an application of that came with HP SimplePass. However, I do use HP SimplePass for password protection such as for logging on to windows and etc.

I hope this helps determine what I should do. :)

Yeah you're fine .

Is your issue still happening ?

As of right now, the TrueSuiteService application that is part of the HP Simplepass program is disabled and everything is working fine with IE 10. It's when the application is enabled is when the multiple IE 10 browsers open.

Do you mean in the startup tab or in the services tab? Because TrueSuiteService is disabled in the services tab.
